Because God tells us in the Bible that it is wrong to marry more than one woman. It's in the New Testament. Besides who wants to be married to more than one woman. If you love someone then you wouldn't want to spend your time with any one but that person.

Christians by and large follow tradition, not scripture. Much of that traditions are hand me downs from Roman pagan worship systems. Think about all the doctrines that have no Biblical mandate.

1) Sunday worship
2) Trinitarian dogma
3) Pagan Holidays ( Easter , Christmas)
4) Eternal Security ( or Once Saved Always Saved)

It is a shame, but it was predicted in scripture.

1 Timothy 4
Instructions to Timothy
1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.

2 Timothy 4:3-4
3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Anti-Polygamy or "Monogamy Only" is probably the most glaring example of pagan influence upon Christian tradition. Biblically there is just no foundation for such a position.

God Bless,

Robert

If you read 1 Corinthians 7:2 it discusses that the Lord only wants you to have one wife and one husband. If you are really questioning that, you must read the Bible. God is very specific about his commandments in the Bible. They are not to be taken lightly. And your answer is, yes God condemns it!

It has nothing to do with whether Christians approve or denounce it, but rather what society as a whole considers acceptable or unacceptable. Which, as it turns out, society chose it to be unacceptable, and it became unlawful. Why not ask, why are most Buddhists, Shintoist, Islamists, Maoists, Hindus, etc. why is just a Christian thing!

Do you know the 10 commandments,

I am the Lord Thy God,

Thou Shall Not Covet thy neighbor's wife,
Thou Shall Not Covet thy neighbor's goods....................

If you cannot completely support yourself, and your family, does adding to this make it easier? In this day and age, support is very important, financial, emotional and territorial!

Christians are against anything that is not the norm even if it is not in the Bible. What is worse is that they start to think they know what is best for everyone and we end up in an oppressive society.

God says it is wrong in the Bible. That is why it says to only have one wife.
