To me, the bible is much more clear on divorce and premarital sex. Why don't we fight against those? Aren't those much more corrosive to the state of marriage? If you argue that they aren't, then how can you argue against gay marriage?

It seems to me (and the bible and Jesus seem to agree) that divorce and premarital relations are much more important issues. Do Christians avoid these issues because they are afraid of driving away people? Is that anyway to run a religion? Is it a popularity contest where we ignore what Jesus wanted and pound on a weak underclass in order to gain parishoners? Is it worth it if we loose sight of the mission?

Why don't we focus more on what Jesus actually said as opposed to the cause celebre of our "religious" leaders?

"its says all three are bad"

The bible is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more clear on divorce and premarital sex. And yet we aren't creating constitutional ammendmants to fight that.

Besides, the OT says bad things about gays, but does the NT? Paul probably does, but what about Jesus? I'm sure he would have heard about it.

"Gay marriage is talked about in the Bible"

Really? That's news to me. Can you quote a verse?

"it is not so much that Christians do not want gays to be happy and in committed relationships, it is the fear of what happens when you alter the definition of marriage to include a broad range of relationships which are considered wrong (multiple spouses, child marriages, etc)."

But doesn't divorce and premarital relations hurt the concept of marriage MUCH, MUCH more. I mean, people not walking in God get married all the time. But when Christians violate the laws of marriage, it damages it. Why are we not more concerned about this?

And isn't the OT full of child marriages and multiple spouces?

I've heard a lot more sermons on the sin of divorce than on gay marriage.

But, I guess, we've already fought and pretty well lost the battles on divorce and fornication in this society.

The Bible does consider all sex outside of marriage sinful, as well as divorce. Christians are struggling against this constantly. As for the issue of gay marriage, it is not so much that Christians do not want gays to be happy and in committed relationships, it is the fear of what happens when you alter the definition of marriage to include a broad range of relationships which are considered wrong (multiple spouses, child marriages, etc). Another problem Christians have is, since homosexual acts are specifically identified as being wrong (the Bible says God considers it an "abomination"), then by allowing gay marriage we are giving sanction to sinful behavior. It would be like the Church condoning stealing or considering idol worship acceptable.

You dont seem to understand something. Right now if you talk to average Joe on the street and you would describe 2 men being married they would cringe at the thought. Liberals are on a mission to normalize homosexuality and that includes redefining marriage to include that which God says is detestable. (Lev 18:22) And Jesus affirmed the law and the prophets many times.

So the Q is, why do you take such a weak stance on homosexuality and the sanctity of marriage? Every Christian I know is very much against divorce and fornication. I dont know what universe you are living in but the church has always condemned these things.

It started out only about money, but it has the pleasant benefit to liberals and atheists of normalizing homosexuality and slowly chewing away at conservative values this country was founded on by destroying the God given definition of marriage.

I was raised catholic and always felt that gay people should have every right to marriage. Most people I know, if not all, feel the same. Love is love. The bible says **** about not lying with another man etc. but that is all bull just like the bible condemn women who are raped and don't scream loud enough, and condone stoning women over minor thing along with a ban against mixed fibre clothing

You say that Christians fear gay marriage - I place gay marriage on equal footing as divorce and premarital sex.

Because society has given up on enforcing the moral norms of divorce and premarital sex, only gay marriage remains the last bastion. If and when that bastion falls, some other bastion will take its place.

Jesus forgave the Samaritan woman who was divorced 5 times and lived in sin with man #6 - there is your answer right there.

*Gasp* Of course they aren't focusing on Divorce, premarital sex or adultery... because these are sins they could or have fallen into at one time or another. These are the type of ppl that the bible points to, standing in the door and not letting any others pass. The Pharisees... who point out the laws that everyone else is breaking, but completely ignores the ones they themselves are breaking, claiming they are above such things. The Bible calls these people hypocrites.... I call em assholes.

Gay marriage is talked about in the Bible, it is stated specifically, that it is a sin. So that is just as bad as premarital sex, and divorce. it's in the exact same category. Gay marriage goes against God's guidlines for marriage....it is to be between a MAN and a WOMAN, not a man and a man, or a woman and a woman. that's just sick. but all three go against God's standards. I have no problem with gays and they shouldn't be looked down upon because God made them just like they made me, but the reason i don't "like" them is because their ACTS are sinful, so it makes them a sinner, just like you and me.

all three of those things are wrong but we arent going to be able to stop divorce and premarital sex as much as gay marrige right know........

im not avoiding them but i think that god understands some sin....ie. divorcing your husband because of abuse

to be honest...........this is how most christian think on those tree sins,
gay marrige is the worst (ADAM and EVE)
then comes premarital sex (wait for marrige)
finally divorce (many christians in todays world have done it and it has become acceptable, and because it is better that making any childeren bastards in the churches eyes)

Christians ignore what Jesus said about divorce and premarital sex, because they constantly engage in these activities...(read: HYPOCRITES)

The Christian idiot (I forget his name) Congressman who initially started this whole gay marriage crap is a FIVE TIME divorcee! How f*&king sanctimonious is marriage when it is treated like that? I agree - pay attention to all of your religion or toss it all out - dont pick and choose. So, if the Govt is going to pass a law outlawing gay marriage, they should also pass a law outlawing divorce and premarital sex......

Jesus himself never said anything about same-sex marriage. He DID talk about divorce though, and he's against it. They're hypocrites, the anti-gay marriage Christians. Every bloody one of them.
