My neighbor owns a little neighborhood store that has been closed down for over a year.
The owner lives upstairs.. he has gone really crazy and has had the police called on him quite a few times.
He put up weird signs in the windows with awful things written.
Anyway, he is now well know and people drive by and yell all the time at him..
their is now a lot of graffiti on the side of the building, the side that faces MY HOUSE.
It is such an eyesore and I was wondering if their is anything I can do to make him have it removed?

I would love to speak to him about this but truthfully I am afraid.
He dances naked with a red light on, all hours of the night. He yells out the window obscenities at people.
He used to be a nice man but something happened to him and he snapped.
I have spoken to the police and several of them know him from high school and such and they don't know what has happened to him.
I do pray for him and I hope that he gets the help that he so deperately needs.

GO to the porter paints and get some paint in a five gallon bucket a roller and and stick a screen for the roller and extension and paint the wall your self .WE did it around our hood and once a month a few of us grab some beers and head out .SOME spray paint for the mail boxes helps . YOU have to do some things your self and you will have some fun doing it as a group and enjoy the exercise .I cannot think of a better way to spend 50 bucks .OH it is possible that you can get the paint donated if you take some pictures of what you cover over .

In some cities, the owner of a property is required to paint over or clean off graffiti. Call your city government and find out if that is true there. Good luck!

While getting your neighbor involved in possible fines/litigation would work, if you don't wish to make enemies it would be better if you and possibly others in the neighborhood tried reaching a solution yourselves. Try diplomacy first. The police have murders and theft and rape to concern themselves with and sadly graffiti will always rank low on their priorities list.

if it's really vacant and the neighbor isn't maintaining it himself... can you turn it into a mural maybe? see about recruiting some neighbor kids or maybe the local high school to see about doing something decorative that wouldn't invite so much ugliness.
it's sad that we turn to the police instead of each other. i'm sure you've discussed this with your neighbor before considering the nuclear option?

Sounds like your neighbor has some mental health issues, maybe needs therapy. Why don't you approach the police with that point of view?

Let your nearest prison know. They have their prisoners doing community service and do this graffitti cleaning. Not only does it get them to clean it off but teaches them about NOT doing graffitti where its not wanted.
