The Church is the people. There is nothing holy about mortar and wood. The building is just a meeting place.

Generally when a church is built everything in it is CONSECRATED to Gods work however INANIMATE objects are not Holy. Holy is a state of BEING that requires a sentience.

If the church is "home" to reverant people, then yes it is a house of God and therefore deserving of respect even by non-believers
