Why do mail trucks and delivery trucks like UPS and stuff like that drive dogs crazy? Or I should say some dogs? My Silky goes crazy everyday at mail time ! Running and barking like a mad man, By the way his name is OZZY , after ozzy Osborne, LOL Luckily we have an invisable fence so he can't get out and chase them. But you always know when the mail is comming or someone is getting a delivery. Our other two dogs, A Sheltie and a Westie will join him, but if their in the house and don't hear him they could care less. Anyone have any thoughts?

My dog actually likes the ups and fedex guys and they like her. I think some dogs are just barkers.

Dogs are territorial, and any infringement on that territory is a threat.
Dogs are also descended from wolves, and the predatory instinct to chase moving objects is still present.
Believe me, it's not just trucks. Throughout history, dogs have chased everything from other dogs, to horses and chariots, to wagons. Dogs just like chasing things, and as I said, they're extremely territorial.
Another example of this is when dog beds down--watch Ozzy tonight, and you'll likely see him circle three times before he lies down, nose to butt.
The three times is to check for any predators, and is ingrained in his DNA. The nose to butt thing is to minimize his vulnerability, like the cowboy movies, where the settlers would circle the wagons.

If you're thinking, "maybe a cat, next time, so this won't happen again"---don't. Cats are also territorial, and the trucks will get them in the window too.

My Schnauzer nuts up everytime someone comes to the door (especially when they ring the doorbell). He's just protecting his turf.

dogs protect their territories and if someone invades it they have to let the person know that it is their territory
