sp2 screws up some old computers - I ended up having to get a new computer, as went a bit funny and kept crashing after I installed and then told me had to update my bios settings - which I tried to do, but then went a bit wrong.
you can uninstall sp2 by clicking on start, settings, control panel, add/remove programs, add/remove windows components -be aware though that if not working properly could be that you computer is too old to cope with the sp2 changes - so might have to do without this update or buy new computer. -would also suggest going to the website for you current bios/computer model to see if this advises of any problems with sp2

there is no sure fire way to repair service pack 2,there are updates for it and hotfixes, but these are just for security flaws that microsoft have found ,
you can uninstall the service pack from add/remove programs and then its best to download the latest version from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx,and install it,if you havent installed sp2 before(as it came on your p.c allready),be warned ,it takes around 10 minutes to install so go and make a cuppa while you wait
good luck
