There's this guy that I've liked since last semester and we're finally going on a date this weekend to the movies. The problem is, I have a phobia of popcorn (I know, it's strange) and I get nervous at movie theaters and usually I have to have a friend buy my ticket and drink for me because I cannot approach the concession stand.
I'm afraid to tell this guy about my fear, because he'll think I'm weird and not want to go with me.

Since you ask, popcorn makes me think of exploding bugs. I saw a hypnotherapist about it, but it did nothing. Some people just have odd phobias and I'm one of those people.

Tell him anyway. It will make for a humerous conversation.

I totally agree with going the allergy route! Tell him you're allergic to popcorn for now.. tell him you became ill when you ate it and therefore don't like the smell and would rather not approach the concession stand.
I think that's perfectly normal.
Later, if things work out between the two of you, you can tell him the truth- and that you were just too embarrased to tell him early on. He'll feel honored to know you were so interested in him.
Good luck!

Why don't you suggest doing something other than going to the movies? Besides, you really can't get to know each other while you sit in a movie theater. Maybe you could go to dinner, play some pool, go bowling, have a drink at the bar, or go to a fair together. After a few dates when you start to feel more comfortable with each other it might be easier to tell him... he'll probably think its cute anyhow :)

A phobia of popcorn?
Well anyway - why not tell him it's an allergy for now. Ask him if he would mind taking care of the concession stand and refraining from getting popcorn because of your allergy. After you two get better acquainted, you can tell him about your little idiosyncracy and he'll probably think it's cute.

I'd just be up front about it with him. Better he find out from you now than to see you throw a fit in the theater if he passes you a bag of popcorn.

Lol...thats easy...ask for something else from the consession stand and tell him that you will go and reserve your seats for the movie. That wont be weird or out of the ordinary. You could also meet him inside of the theatre stating that you have to use the restroom.

So you are deathly afraid of popcorn? What exactly is your fear of it? Are you afraid that some day the trillions of popcorn seeds that have been consumed by mankind will someday reap vengeance upon us?
I guess I could understand being afraid of the Butter Flavored Crude Oil they douse on it...

don't go to the movies. go on a different kind of date-try the park, the zoo, something like that. that way, you can talk, get to know each other. eventually, you will have to fess up about the crazy fear of popcorn...

Be honest with him and kinda make a lil joke out of it to lighten up the first date nerves. If he can't except it, then he wasn't worth it anyway. Good luck sweetie and have a good time :)

Approach it as, you know how people have different fears. To spiders, heights, worms, that just freezes them. Some may seem corckier than others, what's yours...? Well mine may seem weird but mine is of pop corn. So, pls would you mind ....
