They need the lucky sperm club education. Like if their parents were in the journalism industry and they had a well established reputation. You see alot of that in political journalism/ communications. You do bios on them and you find that they grew up on the upper east coast and they went to an ivy league school and their parents were in the elite in the journalism field as reporters or news anchors.

Peter Jennings was a high school drop out in Canada.
He continues to educate himself and obviously did a fantastic job.
I would say that an impressive vocabulary, a well rounded interest in current affairs, geography, history, social science, politics and a voracious appetite for learning, paired with a good voice, excellent public speaking skills, charm, sincerity, youth, good looks, perfect skin, hair and teeth and you've got a shot.

College degree and you have to start out in a small town and be very, very good at it. Then other larger towns hire you and one day you end up a news anchor person. Major in Journalism.

From looking at local new here they need just enough education to be able to read the teleprompter. They don't have to write the news and they don't have to know what it means. They do need a good smile and a great hairdo because that is the key to success.
