This silly billy knows it is a little more complex than that.

So what if they can take out an American ship, the problem is for them to do it. Saddam had one of the biggest armies in the world and while ours, Russia, and China were each the only ones bigger (maybe North Korea, but there are different stories about them too), we sent a tiny piece of ours and dispatched Saddam's military in about three weeks. Sure we didn't win the peace, but the point is we have some very capable people able to do some very exceptional work--and all of them practiced and experienced by now.

The question still is IF, not when. Military ventures are rarely without cost, so maybe they do shoot down a plane or sink a ship. We will have delivered much worse to them. It is part of the price of war. Take the first Gulf War, Iraqi losses were almost a quarter-million, we lost a few hundred. Remember, the issue is not how many countries the US can conquer and keep, but how many dangerous leaders that threaten us can we stop.

BTW: Interesting that you would use the "writing on the wall" story, it was folks from what we now call Iran that overthrew the kingdom of the man who saw the writing on the wall that told of his downfall in Babylon. They too had their day.

Iran is one of the worst if not the worst war like country in the world. It calls for the eradication of Israel and funds and arms Hezbollah and other terror groups. It's president is thought to be one of the terrorists that hijacked and blew up planes in the desert.

It is so bereft of common sense and human dignity that if it gets a nuclear weapon it may well use it even if it meant they would be wiped out in retaliation.

If there is one country in the world that cannot be allowed to attain a nuclear weapon it is Iran.

But do make a note of this. No matter how pro Iranian you may be. The president of Iran is just posturing for political advantage. He will eventually give in because he knows that as sure as eggs are eggs he will get his plants bombed before the weapon is completed.

Virtually all the countries in the world are against Iran possessing a weapon and whilst Russia and China are still trying to back a longer diplomatic effort before sanctions, both countries will back bombing the plants before a weapon can be completed.

Iran talks big at the moment but it must realise it is not just the USA and a few other countries that will oppose it but every country.

Fortunately you are mistaken about Iran being capable of taking out warships and if they tried they would find far greater damage caused to Iran in retaliation.

How long before fanatics realise that they are doing thousands of times more damage to their countries, religions and ideals than they can ever cause to the countries and peoples they target? Are they so unintelligent that they think their citizens should keep dying and living in misery for ever?

The last time Iran tried to take out a US ship, the Iranian navy was decimated within a matter of days. Then the US gave satellite images to Iraq, and Iraq, with far less technology than the US currently has, decimated Iran's land forces.

If that were to happen, we could just decimate your military forces without invading. But maybe we should only take out some of your military, such as missile launchers, fighter bases, and some naval vessels.

Taking out a ship can be done with a motor boat full of explosives. The question might be: what does Iran want to risk by striking back?

The U.S. has done "surgical strikes" of countries in the past (Libya, for example) without having to enter a full-blown war afterwards. It's not cut-and-dry that any military action on the part of the U.S. will result in a full-blown war because it's quite possible that either Iran, the U.S., or both would pull back from the path of full-blown war before it escalated.

Now if either the U.S., Iran, or both actually WANT to have a war with the other, then....well, we're screwed. :(

Our military capability and intel are so sophisticated and so powerful that we can blow Iran 10 times over and have less casualties at the same time. Our warships are way too strong and smart to be destroyed by Iran's sorry weapons. Our navy alone can destroy an entire city over then.

I served in the gulf during the Iran/Iraq war . The Iranians tried to take us on we wiped out there navy in one day. they fired Cruise missiles at us the silkworm missile from china our chaff system sent the missile high over our ships. We also had our CIWS anti-missile guns ready un like the poor bastards on the USS STARK. The only real threat they had was mines which damaged USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS, USS PRINCETON and USS TRIPOLI I believe could be wrong on TRIPOLI BUT one OF her class anyway. The real threat is to oil tankers which are easy fat targets this is where the iranians can hurt the world as well as shut off there vast oil fields to the world market.

The only reason the USS Cole bombing worked is because it was unexpected.
If the Nukes are taken out then the Iranians have nothing that can touch us. Remember the Iranians were afraid of Saddam, and shock and Awe defeated his military in a matter of days.
