Yes.
Although the Jewish religion see the Jewish nation as "the chosen people" by birth, it allows conversion when the leading idea is that everyone who is willing to have on oneself the burden of the "mitzvot", deserve to be Jewish.
Judaism does not intent to spread itself and missionise other nations, so the process of the conversion (that is called "Giyur") is pretty long and difficult.

After the conversion, the "Gyor" (the converted) is Jewish in every sense of the word. As a matter of fact, religious people tend to respect converted people even more, because they CHOSE Judaism and had a longer way to become Jewish.

According to my extensive research (you know, the episode of Sex and the City where Charlotte wants to converts to Judaism so she can marry Harry) the Jewish religion accepts converts, but they make you prove that you really want to do it. They may turn you away at first. And then there are classes to take before your actual conversion ritual.

It isn't like a Christian conversion where you say a little prayer and you're in.

Most definitely! Most temples offer classes for non-Jewish folks so they can learn more about the religion before they decide to convert or not. Even if you're not interested in converting but are someone who likes to learn more about religions other than your own, you'd be welcome to take such classes. Just check with your local temple for what they might offer!

I've heard that you have to go to a rabbi and be told no three times before they relent and let you begin the training. But yeah they do. Most of the conversions of importance in the Jewish community is from reformed or secular jews back to orthodox. If you see an rv with the words Mitzvah Tank on it, they're orthodox jews looking to convert secular jews.

Yes, but you have to study a long time because they want you to be sure this is what you really want. It's not easy to be a Jewish person in this world...you are accused of starting all the wars in the world; of having control of all the money and the goverment; of killing Jesus; of "running" Hollywood (this one always gets me..who cares who "runs" Hollywood?). Think about all this before you make a decision.

Different branches have different feelings about it. The more liberal branches (Reform/Reconstructionists) are more accepting, while the more conservative branches still have some reservations.

I included a link on converting to Judaism.
