Why is it that some of my fellow Christians believe in the prophetic dreams or other similar events (otherwise known as psychic phenomenon) described in the Bible (even taking every story as literal fact), but don't believe that those kinds of events can happen now?

Good question, and one that needs to be asked.

It boils down to lack of faith. A lot of people these days claim to believe in a particular faith but all to often it turns out to be just another way to socialize.

Another reason is because of the likes of hucksters like Benny Hin, who only pretends to heal (I am a healer and I can tell you that guy is fake), and the large number of Apocalyptic soothsayers blasting everyone with fire and brimstone sermons.

If you study your Bible closely, you will find that these things were prophesied by the writers of the new Testament. Such people are called "Anti-Christs" and their words eat away at the very fabric of the true teachings of Jesus and his Apostles.

Don't listen to your minister or what anyone tells you is in the Bible and what is possible; follow the simple advice that is plainly written in there and follow the Holy Spirit. The Bible was compiled years after Jesus ascension and he clearly left the Holy Spirit as the Comforter. While the writing's can be helpful, the only Bible you really need is a strong relationship with God. There is no greater wisdom than the Spirit whose truth can not be reduced to words and fully understood, God is much greater than that, and that far beyond our understanding.

There are miracles of Biblical proportions happening every day. If your not seeing them among the people you are fellowshipping with then it is probably a good Idea to seek out those who really do have faith.

Taking every story in the Bible as literal is also a way of deception: Many stories are obviously allegorical and many others cryptic.

Try following Jesus' example; go into the wilderness for a few days, fast, pray, clear your mind, be still from body to the depths of your soul, listen to the spirit, and be patient.

Take these words and test them with the spirit, just as is instructed in the Bible and know in your heart that which is true and that which is false.

Many Christians are very suspicious of people who say that they have a message from God. There are a number of reasons for this.

One is that too many people who have claimed to have had dreams or visions have then started their own church, usually with them as the head (and all too often as their new messiah).

Another reason is that the Bible states that there were, are, and always will be false prophets. All prophetic dreams, visions, etc. should be carefully compared to and measured against the Bible. If it doesn't agree with that, then the prophecy is to be rejected.

A third reason is that the books of the Bible have taken us from creation through to today, and the books of Daniel and Revelation (and others, like Isaiah) were given to us to see us through until Jesus' second coming. With the Bible covering the entire span of the Earth's history, many Christians reject anyone who claims to have "new light."

However, the Bible does say that dreams and visions will occur, particularly in the last days of Earth's history. The key thing is to make sure that whatever the person says is in harmony with the Bible. If the vision or dream is truly from God, it will NOT contradict the Bible.

Does that mean that visions and dreams will be in harmony with the traditions (ie - practices that have been done for years or centuries, but have no Biblical foundation) that are found in the various denominations? No, because traditions are, again, non-Biblical. People do them because they've always done them, and so did their parents, etc.

Visions and dreams, both true (from God) and false (from Satan), will occur. You've got to keep a good head on your shoulders and study the Bible. If you don't know the Bible well enough to tell whether a dream or vision is in harmony with it, then you may end up getting into a mess.

I would think because some people just see the bible of things that happened in the past and what may come in the future. But when it is looked at in the future, it revolves around the end of days, tribulation, revelation & such. Alot of the bible revolves around the past so maybe some fellow Christians are doing their best to follow the bible in the 'past' tense.
If the things, you stated are in the bible, then your fellow christians should believe that it can happen today or they are not following the bible correctly. I am not judging anyone here. It is not my place to judge only the Lords. May God Bless you all. And I hope that you do get the exact answer that you are looking for if I did not help you.

Which bible? There are numerous variations and all have been translated, i'm guessing on your case into English, through fact of this there are interpretations of alternative languages' idiosyncrasies that are impossible to translate actually. the terrific we are able to do is to attempt to place it into words which would be expressed interior the trip spot language - even though it fairly is each and every each and every now and then not precise. in case you have been to study the bible (all the books and gospels, not basically those cherry-picked to be secure interior the widespread variations we see now) in it fairly is unique languages, inclusive of Aramaic, then you definitely might come far off from the e book with a various expertise of the written words in case you have been fluent in those languages and the cultural references of the time. interior the comparable way that examining unique variations of Shakespeare seems unusual to our present day language, the bible has additionally mandatory this interpretation to place it in cutting-edge referential barriers. through fact this translation or interpretation of the proclaimed deity's words is carried out with the help of human beings, and all religions agree that human beings are fallible, then it rather is open to errors (intentional or not), and subsequently the words might desire to be recognized for what they are - a coarse handbook. The dogmatic nature of those words, being translated with the help of fallible human beings, who the meant deity speaks with the aid of is meant to lend the load of reality, so the real reality might desire to be that we are going to not constantly have faith the words at face value. to think of of it in terms of a believer in a faith, how can we presume to appreciate the recommendations of an all-powerful being as quickly as we are hindered with the help of our primitive recommendations's barriers? we can't so the terrific we are able to do is assume. Are you fairly waiting to base each and every thing you do on an assumption of what your god needs of you, or does it make extra experience just to be stable to individuals, through fact it feels like the main appropriate element to do? faith did not invent morality. We did. and then we imposed our ethical codes of existence on our non secular practices.

One, they were not "psychic phenonenon"... and there is nothing in the Bible that could not occure today if God decreed it to happen... Different events occured in times past that have changed the way God interacts with mankind. That is why much of the events you alude to do not occure today...

today the psychic practices engaged in are mostly false and illusion... but there are psycic events that are more sinister in nature...these are originated by the forces of evil...not from God... that is not how God works with his people .

Re-verbalizing the past to today's culture isn't going to change the TRUTH! and young immature Christians are still growing even with mistakes in thought! Hey there are old immature Christians in this day and age that still will 'die' with misunderstanding of all GOD's Truth...sadly enuff! Christians are only better when forgiven!

1 Corinthians 13:8-10 says that the gifts of prophecying are to be done away with because of what is complete arrives, that which is partial will be done away with.

Paul said the they prophesied partially because the bible was not finished as we have it today. Now that we have the complete bible and so many prophecies have been fulfilled, we no longer need "miricles" to determine that this book is from God.
