Before I start, I am a Christian and I don't believe in evolution. But it is kind of tough not to when I come across most Christians trying to deny evolution, because nothing looks more like a ticked-off gorilla or chimp than a Christian trying to say evolution doesn't happen. I guess this is more a question of why so many Christians find it so hard to be reasonable when dealing with matters that go against their religion? Can anyone tell me how to calm them down when I am with them (other Christians) so we might have a decent chance in class when debating this?

lol, unfortunately there doesnt seem to be a way to quell devout religious folk, or intense atheists for that matter

some people are just dead set in their opinions, whether they be about religion or not, and there is no reasoning with them.. the only way ive found to deal with it is to drop the subject.. lol and that only works if they are willing to drop it too

technically, in a debate, if one side makes a logically valid point then the other side must agree... that doesnt seem to happen in these types of "arguments".. so no real debate can happen

Science Question ?

have you ever seen a Monkey Becoming man?
Is there any record?
So why is this story passing as Science ?
there are many be similarity between different species, but how does that prove that species evolve ?
have any scientist ever produced a living cell from matter even in the best possible labs ?

Why do scientist want this theory to become prominent when there is no Experimental proof ? Why do they have such enmity with religion ?
Though there is no proof of evolution...even if you can make it happen in lab, you cannot prove that it happened the same way on this planet ? can you ?

I am an Engineer and a science student and I cannot allow such bluff to pass on as science ...

And FYI ..its called Evolution "Theory" and not fact ...
and also do scientist agree on one theory? ... then why they come up with so many theory ??
Fact is only one ...So if you are still researching then say so ... why do you say its a fact ?

Lets put one thing straight first.
PURE Science and PURE Religion do not contradict each other
Evolution is a Scientific THEORY it is NOT Pure Science.
God has Created Rules and follows them.
God is Logical he does not contradict himself.
There is only ONE True Religion.

Evolution is a theory that all living creatures evolved from some a common evolutionary ancestor.
Evolution also states that this creature evolved from rocks and rain. the reverse steps are
animals and plants - single celled organism - prehistoric cell and mitocondria and chloroplasts - ooze that contains building blocks of life - rocks and acid rain - lava and gases from volcanoes.
that is what unpure-science claims you evolved from
Evolutionary Theory also is missing too many pieces to make a detailed map or picture. like making a puzzle with only 0.1% to 1% of the pieces. doesn't work period.

and since religion gives the only other alternative i'll have to go with the belief that we ARE created by God.
after all how does a quatinary biological programing language (DNA) that works actually come into existance by accident.
there is too much order in the universe for it to have just happened.

Don't use the word 'you'. They will automatically take that as an attack. Try to phrase things in a neutral manner. Are you debating for, or against, religion? If you're debating for it, you need to tell them something like 'alright, the assignment is to debate FOR evolution. I don't believe in it, I don't want to argue for it, but that's the assignment. To get an 'A' on this, calm rational thought needs to be applied. Are you with me? Can we do this together? Here is the information we have...' Make sure to include yourself as part of the group. Say 'we' instead of 'you', or 'I'. Try to place yourself vocally alongside them rather than oppositionally, and they will be more willing to work with you. Take a "chill break" every time somebody starts getting really irate to let everybody calm back down again. Make sure they know that the opposing debate team will be trying to make them angry, and anger is not conducive to rational thought.

Christians, especially catholics, do endorse the Theory of evolution. Do you not believe the theory of evolution personally or do you think your religion won't allow a belief in evolution? If the second question is the case, let your beliefs fit you and not the other way around. Otherwise if you say you believe something and you really don't, you'll become a hypocrite.

Evolution is not something you can believe or disbelieve. It is a proven fact. It irritates me that so many people get caught up in denying the undeniable that they ignore the perfectly legitimate debate of the cause of evolution. If you think God created life then go develop a hypothesis, do some experiments, show how He could have done it.

If we assume the universe was created, then it’s reasonable to assume there was a creator. That’s as far as science has progressed today, but just look how far religion has progressed.

Religion states (fact) there was a creator called God, that God still exists, God also created places called Heaven & Hell, God wrote an instruction book called the Bible, God will banish evil people to Hell, God will send good people who follow the Bible to heaven, that people referred to in the Bible (like Jesus) will return to Earth, and a whole raft of other statements of fact. That’s right, religious fact, not assumptions.

Now tell me truthfully, if science doesn’t even know yet whether the universe was created or not, but religious believers state: “not only was the universe created by God, here’s a whole lot more proof and facts to go with it, what do you think?

Either religious believers just have vivid imaginations or suffer from a common mental illness. I think commonsense and logic would suggest that religious believers are mentally handicapped.

No need to 'believe' in evolution; it's science and it's not meant to be a religious belief. I don't 'believe' in quantum physics but it's true and, if fundamentalists learned more about it, they would have even MORE issues with it than they do with evolution. The only way to calm anyone down is to have them go beyond their dogma and their rigid concepts of god and allow for them to be wrong. Evolution is NOT at odds with God; it's at odds with a few theologies/concepts of God. It's important to see the difference.

Unfortunately, there is only one cure for stupidity and that is knowledge. Christianity, in and of itself, is not only a denial of general knowledge, but also a denial of self-knowledge. Origin of Species attempted to plumb the mysteries of why creatures are as they are, but have you ever wondered why Christianity is as it is?

wayofthemaster.com has a great video about evolution and how to prove it is wrong. It is a pretty long video but it answered all my questions.
