Go to a basset rescue instead. Check out the link below or go into yahoo and type in basset hound rescue followed by the name of your state.

Don't mean to be rude but this really isn't the place to ask for a puppy. If you are serious about getting a basset hound you should contact the kennel club (I don't know if you are in the uk or america or whatever) for your country. Ask them for a list of breeders. Contact each of the breeders and see if they have a litter planned. If they do you should ask to be put on their waiting list. When you go to see the pups then be aware that the breeder may ask a lot of questions as they want to be sure their pups are going to a good home. Make sure that you see the mother with the pups and check that she and the sire have been tested for common disorders for the breed (hip scores, eye tests etc). This way take a little longer than you'd like but at least you'll be much more likely to get a healthy, even tempered puppy.

Good luck.

You might want to try rescue. There's so many great dogs of all breeds and all ages, that are in rescue through no fault of your own.

Whilst there are often young dogs (and sometimes puppies) in rescue, adult dogs are often a better bet. You know what the adult temperament will be like, you just need to get to know the dog. It's worth trying the petfinder and bhrescue suggested earlier by other people. Speak to the rescues about your circumstances and any concerns you have. You might well be surprised!

If that doesn't work out, or you really want to have a puppy, Emma F has given good advice. Follow that and you'll not go far wrong.

Whether you get a pup bred or a rescue I'd recommend you get a book on the breed of dog too. I got one when I first rehomed my greyhound and found it VERY useful.

Also, take it to puppy classes. Your local vet might be able to recommend a good class.

Good luck.

Never advertise looking for a pup. This encourages puppy farms who depend on spontaneous buyers. Go to a registered breeder and pay a deposit for a pup from their next litter.
