How does one obtain information on re-entry to the US if one is on an OPT work visa in the US? Said person has graduated from a University recently in the US and is working full time now and is on an OPT work visa. They want to leave to visit home for a while and have many friends who for some reason or another were not allowed back in the country apon re-entry. Is this legal? How can I find out more information about this?

If you are on OPT I assume you have an F-1. You are entitled to one year of OPT. During that time, all your other F-1 requirments remain. You need a valid passport, you need a valid visa, and you need a current I-20 (SEVIS form) endorsed to allow for your OPT. Your OPT can only be for the company and position endorsed by your school.

If your visa is expired, it can be automatically re-validated at the Port of Entry if your travel was only to a contigous territory (Mexico or Canada) or the adjacent islands (Carribbean countries) for less than 30 days.

If you are on OPT, you must have a job and prove you have a job to re-enter the country (that is what my school told me, and all the websites i have seen say and the DHS say this)...
you should also have your I-20 stamped, carry your EAD, and have a valid passport and visa
