The vast majority of people who spell incorrectly do so because their parents and teachers do/did not consider correct spelling to be important.
I am about the same age as Bush. I spell well because my parents and teachers forced me to memorize correct spellings, even though my State was rated 36th out of 48 in education. My cousin, who is but a year or two younger went to school in California, and her spelling was/is atrocious. Trying to blame someone for problems created by someone else when he was a child is a shameful travesty.
P.S. I use spell checkers when available because I am embarrassed to submit my arguments poorly spelled. This time it told me that I only misspelled embarased and attrocious.

Because it is often inefficient to memorize copious quantities of ridiculous and arbitrary spelling "rules" which often have many exceptions. This is especially true in the era of efficient word processing software that can correct spelling more quickly and accurately than can any human. Obviously it cannot correct for usage, and is no substitute for proofreading, but spell-checking software is somewhat to blame. The point of writing is to communicate ideas. That purpose only breaks down when spelling is so poor that ideas are lost.
Somebody that spells well simply demonstrates their ability and/or willingness to memorize such things. It hardly is a sign of intelligence whatsoever - monkeys can memorize. You'll find that some of the most intelligent people are some of the most atrocious spellers.

Some one can correctly spell, and keep spelling wrongly then it's mistake, some one don't know how to spell like me,I try to learn.Lot of them can't spell because they're lazy. Make typos all the time, but there's a difference between people who hit the wrong key and wants to hit wrong key.
You are great.!!
"It definitely show a lack of intelligence"
Thanks..

I've noticed too. I feel like I'm the only one who types proper English in here. I think they are so used to typing so fast and not caring. I don't think this has anything to do with Bush's rules. After all this is the internet...

Why do some people ask stupid questions? Who do you think is going to monitor the spelling of some twit on Yahoo! Answers to see if they abide by the "no one left behind" rule. You can't force people to spell - - -its just because they are lazy.

The problem is getting worse every year. Sadly, it will only prevent them from getting better jobs when they start working. All clerical jobs test your abilities in spelling, math, grammar, etc.
It's probably an issue of carelessness, laziness, parents who don't do homework with their children and teachers who don't have time to show them how do do things right.

The reason so many people spell incorrectly is because they don't care or they are lazy.

One of the major contributing factors to this issue is word processing software. Most adults use it if they work in an office or school or anywhere there are computers. Most kids in school use them. They automatically correct spelling issues, so when they use something that doesn't have spellcheck, things are spelled incorrectly.
