If you have to believe that Christ died for your sins, and repent your sins to get to heaven and be in God's love... that's conditional love, not unconditional.

If you disagree, explain how you could let someone spend eternity in torment and still love them?

DON'T WORRY- THERE IS NO HEAVEN AND THERE DEFINITELY IS NO GOD.

Theologically i think it's metaphoric. God's love is unconditonal in that he loves all no matter what and whether or not they follow his teachings. I also think that the "conditions" are guides and paths that he hurges people to follow to have a more harmonious and better life. Do you have to believe to be christian..yes. do you have to repent your sins...yes. Those are his "requirements as taught to gain entry. Technically it is conditional. I think its interpretive also.

How can I let someone spend eternity in torment and still love them? Good one. I guess if my kid or my wife killed someone and he went to jail...that would fit. Theologically this is another one of those things that i believe is interpretive. Torment is 1 : the infliction of torture (as by rack or wheel), 2 : extreme pain or anguish of body or mind : AGONY; 3 : a source of vexation or pain. I don't think you have a chice in that case but in general, i don't know that there is a good answer other than theologially, god's love is unconditional. Perhaps as some would teach it was ment to be...fate so to speak.

Good questions though...Very indepth.

God's unconditional love and the condition of leading a good life to get to heaven are not related.
He loves us even if we choose the wrong path.
You have slightly, yet profoundly misinterpreted the Christian doctrines of salvation and God's unconditional love for us.
Salvation is conditional because Adam and Eve broke God's trust so that we now have to earn our salvation instead of having it given to us.
God's love for us is unconditional because it is infinite like He is and therefore not limited by conditions like human love.
Next time don't get the 2 confused, but still a very legitimate question...for an agnostic/atheist (no offense).

HE loves HIS Creation, even plants! Then man sinned( rebelled, disobeyed),which makes GOD unhappy, but not always in a wrathful way! Jesus sacrificed himself(obediently) for the removal of sin! As yet not all generations of people had been born so ...much like a birthday gift sits on a shelf until needed...salvation is waiting to be received by every person born! the HOLY SPIRIT has the gift wrap already!

To the guy ("Scabius Fretful") who wants to know where it says God is unconditionally loving, the answer is: All over the Bible and everything you preach. What is "grace" if it's not "unconditional love"? Unconditional love is a modern-day term, but it means the same thing. You better check back in with Preacher, to see what you believe.

To answer the question: I can't. There's no answer. You pointed out yet another one of the Christian God's hipocrisies. How could a "loving" Father send his child to a fiery death? Wouldn't discommunicating them suffice?

Well if you chose to believe in God...Most christians believe god loves you no matter what. Curse his name, commit murder, adultry and sin over and over. Christians believe that Jesus died for you because he loves you. By dying for you he bought you eternal forgiveness of all sins. No sin is greater than the other. The only sin that cannot be forgiven is if you were to say, 'even if there was a god i would hate him' basically. Christians believe as long as you believe Jesus is christ and your savior and salvation in heaven and after life, you will go to heaven. Even if you go to hell God/Jesus still loves you but by not accepting him in your heart as christ and savior you do not recieve enternal life in heaven. That is the basis of christianity for further info try reading the bible. It's all there. If you have trouble understanding the language try a King James for the modern man edition or using a bible guide. It helps with the concepts and the stories as well as their underlying meaning.

Thank you for that excellent question.
Let me clarify something here...
Only a select few are chosen by God to be with him in the heavens.
The rest will have another chance during the reign of Christ for a thousand years when they are ressurected on earth.
If the ones go to heaven as some are taught, the rest are in hell in torment what's going to happen to the earth...
God created the earth for man, but sence our forefather Adam sined God unconditionaly shown extradinary love for mankind in Adams loins to send his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON TO RESCUE MANKIND.
If you want to find out what the word Hell is, look it up in a good Greek word for word translation.
Or a good cross reference Bible under the word Hell or Hades and the word Sheol. which means (MANKINDS COMMON GRAVE NOT A FIRERY PLACE OF TORMENT). Please read all of the scriptures here...
Revelation chapter-7 verses, 1-17 notice they PALM BRANCHES in their hands and verse 16-17.
also Revelation Chapter 21 verses 3-5
Good luck for your quest for truth.

John 3: 18-19 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

God Bless You!!

Hell is the natural consequence of our rejection of God's love. If you end up in hell it is because you preferred to isolate yourself from God. You can't blame him for that.

Here is an analogy. Lets suppose that your father loves you unconditionally. Because he loves you, he wants what's best for you. You aren't looking at the big picture though. You want what feels good right now and resent your father's rules. Your father has rules for you BECAUSE he loves you. He doesn't love you only if you follow his rules. If you choose to break those rules and hurt yourself, he will still love you because his love is unconditional. Unfortunately, you are the one who is going to have to live with the consequences of your choices.
