well maybe she thinks you're too young. I wasn't allowed to do color treatments/higlights to my hair until I was 13.

It's your choice but personally I think that highlights can make you look two ways depending on the highlight job. Streaky and disgustingly obvious highlights CAN look slutty while a good highlight can lighten your hair and make you look sophisticated. Find a good stylist and maybe your mom will be okay with it!

she's jealous that you want to have fun with your hair.... old people are bitter and cold like that... anytime they see youth in someone else they realize that their life is coming to a lonely dissapointing end and they try to get all assertive.... I say highlight your hair and also just to mess with her leave a bunch of used condoms around the house.

Maybe she thinks you are going to put glitter in your hair and it will fall out everywhere. Or, it can be a little expensive so maybe that is what she meant. Continue the conversation with her in a respectful, mature manner.

Everyone has different parents, and everyone has different children.
Ask her the reasons for not highlighting hair, other than respectful

Well, when you become an adult I would definitely do it on purpose. As a mother myself, it doesn't really bother me and I don't think it's disrespectful in any way. Respect is a value that is earned not store bought.

Uhhh sometimes....depending on the hair color...I got blood red highlights once, and people were kind of, "............" at first, but they grew to like it and I've dyed my hair jet black and people said I could pull it off without looking sick and stuff....It just really depends, you know?
If you asked to get a natural looking highlights...I've got to say...wtf?

It depends on how old you are, if you are under thee age of 18, then yes your mother is right. But if you are 18 or older, you mother still is entitled to her opinion, but you are 18 or older, do whatever it is you want to do to your hair.

Don't listen to her. She sounds like an old fashioned bitty. Do what you like to your hair. As long as it looks tasteful enough to not have issues at school, she has nothing to say about it.
