First, sorry you're deployed, I know it sux.
Second, I would hire life experience. PROVEN life experience. I work in the IT field and my immediate supervisor has a Masters in IT and can't do crap.

Question one: depends on the person, and the job being filled. If a younger college grad is capable of handling the job, you can probably hire them for less money than an experienced person. On the other hand if the job is demanding and needs to be filled you may want to get someone that can just come in and get to work.
Question two: I don't know when I made my profile, but it has been at least a month or so, and I don't have friends on here. Mostly because I am not here to make friends. I am here to offer advice that might help some folks. If I make a friend or two because of it, great.
Thanks for the work you do, being deployed is hard, and we all appreciate you serving your/our country.
God Bless, stay safe.

I have been a hiring manager for many years of my career. I believe that whether or not a person can preform the job really depends on their character. Most people that have a varied life experience are better for the job because they had to use common sense to survive. They need to have the technical skills for the job however so I would look at each candidate evenly and make the decision bases on their individual attributes. I will have to say that most HR departments are bean counters and only look at college education.

I would hire the person with the experience, not necessarily with the college degree. It's not too pathetic that you've had the profile for two days. I'm not too sure you will develop strong friendships with people through computer use. I wish you the best.

This is an easy one.
I ran my own business for 11 years. I pick the person with life experience every single time. I knew a guy who could build anything you wanted out of scrap metal, and he never finished high school. On the other hand, I have known lots of Ph.D.'s who cannot change a lightbulb.
Look no farther than your commander-in-chief, President Duh. He went to Harvard and Yale. Graduated from both, I am told. Yet he cannot put two consecutive coherent sentences together, never mind run what was once the greatest and most powerful country in the world.

Glad to see you still have a sense of humor with all you are going threw. Being an ex military wife I would have to vote for the life experience. Having a degree or anytime in college doesn't mean that you are going to know how to handle things better then someone who has lived it. And of course all enlisted think this of the officers..lol...its a long time battle babe!

first there is no such thing as a person with an invaluable life experience and, yes i would hire someone with out a degree. as far as question number two goes this is not like myspace.com where you "collect" friends. if you don't know the difference between yahoo answer's and myspace.com how in the world did you manage to get into the military?

You have more friends on "this thing" than you could have imagined. But to your question, I would hire the one with life experiences, they tend to have more common sense. The can look at a situation and make more than one choice. Most college grads only see the academic side, no practical usage or experience. Make sense?

I thank you for serving our country, but I would go with the degree over experience. College teaches people to be well-rounded. That is why so many core classes are required.
No, it isn't pathetic that you haven't made friends here. Friendship takes time.
Best wishes

OK, ONE) Depends on what position I was hiring for. TWO) I hadn't realised the profile on Yahoo Answers was for making friends. Why not try Hi5 (www.hi5.com), here in Europe that is THE place for making friends on line.
