Moses had two( one a black woman)Caleb had 3 or 4 wives,Aaron too! Joshua had 4 wives by which were born the 12 tribes of Israel. And, of course there is the stud Solomon and his harem.
Further, NOWHERE in the NT is polygamy forbidden by either jesus or God( paul is neither). How could polygamy be unrighteous in the eyes of god?

Jesus retells the Adam and Eve story and no reference to pologamy. He is simply retelling it. NOT making it a standard

Polygamy's fine by me, as long as I'm number one wife. Men contemplating polygamy should consider the fact that behind each wife there is a mother-in-law.
Actually, I favour polyandry. A husband to provide the children, one to do the garden, one to earn the money and a young one to remind me how it used to be and drive my car..

It IS a "Traditional" form of marriage.
Also, more women are born alive than men, especially in Biblical times.
I am not condoning polygamy, but the basic arguments against same-sex marriage, such as there being a traditional definition of marriage and the need to breed, and the need for children to have male and female parent, do not apply to polygamy. They should both be legal and if you don't like it, the only fair solution is for the government not to recognize marriage at all. If marriage is considered a religious institution, which for me it's not because I'm not religious and I'm married, then its recognition by the government would be unconstitutional anyway.
Extra little note for the person who wrote below about every wife coming with a mother-in-law... in a society which allows polygamy, each wife may come with 5 mothers-in-law!

Adam is only recorded as having one wife, Eve. God never sanctions polygamy, but allowed it because it fit into his plans during the Old Testament times. Remember, New Testament means NEW, a different way. Just because Jesus did not outright prohibit something does not mean that he endorsed it. God intends that a man have one wife only, as the Bible records God saying in Genesis 2:24, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." Wife is singular, not plural. Jesus also quotes this scripture. Polygamy is a sin of man, not a commandment of God.

Paul is neither God nor Jesus, but his writings contained in the Holy Bible are the Word of God.
One mention of monogamy is in 1 Timothy 3:2 (written by Paul, as it appears you fear).
Don't believe Paul? How about Moses... Even in Genesis 2:24, monogamy is declared: "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." 1+1=2 (monogamy)
Just because there are those in the bible who had more than one spouse does not mean that they were without sin in doing so.

"I am the same yesterday, today, and forever." - Jesus
What was permissable in the days of old, is permissable in modern times.
In Indonesia a man can take up to 3 wives so long as his income can sustain the family. Will God say to that man, what was alright for Aberham or Moses is not OK for you. Or What was permissable 3000 years ago is not today?
Some will say the Rabinical law was done away with once Christ came. I haven't researched that enough to have an opinion.

For that matter Paul didn't say it was forbidden either. He just said that to be a church officer a man had to be the husband of one wife. If you had more you could still be a believer. It's modern western law that makes this a crime not scripture. I wouldn't want more than one. Mine has me busy enough, two would kill me...Jim
BTW Joshua was a member of one of the tribes. Jacob (Who God called Israel) was the father of the 12 tribes...

Well, because now children are being abused because of that system and it's wrong. People can say how wonderful it is, but when 13 year old children are being promised to older men and boys are being kicked out of the family because they compete with older men then something is wrong. They crossed the line when they started to abuse the children that certainly didn't ask to be put in this situation.

pologamy is what invented gays and lesbians. and everyone thinks that is wrong. As we developed in this earth we started to realize that there was no self gratification in having more than one wife/husband. And as for god... god doesn't really know what he's doing, first he floods the earth, then he freezes it, then he invented pologamy to get the population up... Who knows...

It is to prevent the spread of mental illness through out society. I know that if I hade more than one husband, I would have gone totally crazy a long time ago. If I had to share my husband with more than one woman, that wouldn't work for me either. I like having an equal partnership with my husband, without the interference of other people.

Natural law,
If God wanted men to have 4 wives, the ratio of people being born would be 4 women to 1 man.
"A man shall leave his mother and father and cling to his wife"
Not wives.
The prophets were not without sin, Jesus is.
May God Bless you!
