I am baby sitting my bosses dog and she is a spaz. She spends the whole night running around and humping everything. We can't get her to sit still for five minutes. We got no sleed last night and I can't deal with it again. I don't want to lock her up in her crate but I need to sleep. HELP!

I use rescue remedy. You can get it at the health food store. Its a blend of herbs that are used for calming.

Its safe for dogs and kids.

Crate the dog.....the dog might be a spaz because it's not crated and doesn't know what to do with itself. If you have changed the dogs schedule at all it will go a bit spazzy. For the dogs sake and yours....crate it. It is humane as dogs are den animals for the most part. Dogs that don't like to be crated either have never been crated or it was made to be a punishment. Most of all....calm down and make the crate experience a pleasant one. Good luck.

If you aren't already, give the dog plenty of exercise! A little while before you go to bed take her on a 30-45 minute walk. She'll be too worn out to run around spazzing.

A few possibilities:
- she's either always like that and your boss has never addressed it
- she's used to getting more exercise with her owners
- she's nervous about her owners not being there

Lots of exercise during the day should help, regardless of the cause.

It is not cruel to crate a dog at night. The crate becomes their safe place and they like it, so crate her and everyone is happy. She is probably upset because she is in a new and strange environment.

Is she getting enough exercise? Take her on a nice, long walk. This "remedy" isn't guaranteed, but it can make a big difference. Also, if she's crate-trained, she won't mind being in her crate.

crate is a very humane thing to do. . .our beagle goes in a crate and the puppy needs to just get used to it. they will then start to love the crate. . .its like their secret get away. all i have to say is kennel up and our beagle runs right in. he loves it and any dog will once they get used to it. a crate is the best idea for any dog in this sitution and in many others

WOW that sounds annoying! Lock her up in her crate when you go to sleep and let her out when you wake up.

Go to the petstore and get her one of those hollow bones with the peanut buttery stuff in the middle..
She'll spend all night trying to get the peanut butter out.. and forget she ever wanted to run around.
:-) Good luck!

She is probably very stressed being away from her own "pack". Take her for a nice long walk or play with her before going to bed. Most important is to pet her and talk to her. Then when she feels safe, get her a teddy bear and take her to bed with you.
