Well, as luck would have it, I live in Oregon...and yes, there were "balloon bombs" that exploded here, causing some minor fires, and finally, on May 5, 1945, a balloon bomb killed five children and a woman near Bly, Oregon. The only fatalities from the "balloon offensive"
The US Forest service still has reports of the bombs being found in the woods all over the northwest and sends experts to defuse them or explode them in place.
Keep in mind that in addition to the bomb attacks on the US mainland, several US territories and bases were invaded or attacked by Japan:
The Philippines
Alaska (the islands of Attu and Kiska)
Wake Island
Midway Island
Hawaii
Guam
FYI, due to a rubber and silk shortage in Japan, the balloons were made out of paper!

convinced both right away and circuitously. the most impressive attack stands out as the eastern invasion of the Alleution Islands of Alaska. Japan used this invasion hoping to entice American Naval forces north and weaken the forces that would help look after halfway Island. even if the U. S. code breakers knew Japan change into going to attack halfway or maybe as and knew the invasion stress change right into a diversion. the u . s . did not take the bait and in between the most one sided battles in Naval heritage change into waiting to sink 4 eastern vendors at halfway. As for the invasion of the Islands the u . s . would ultimately get rid of the eastern forces from there. in the course of the approach the warfare the eastern released various thousand balloons full of incendary resources in direction of the U. S. west coast. The hopes will be that those balloons would initiate raging wooded area fires and spoil many of the west coast. The plan in worry-free words in part worked. even as various balloons under no circumstances made it with the help of the Pacific those that did were saved secret through the U. S. authorities so the conventional public doesn't be paniced. Japan ultimately cancelled this wondering that the plan had failed. Edit: whats up krennao earlier giving a sensible *** answer you should quite come across straightforward approaches to verify the question. He requested Mainland US and Alaska, Pearl Harbor is on Oahu in Hawaii which portion of neither.

YES they did happen the japanese sent balloon bombs to the north western US to start massive forest fires. Thankfully this didn't happen, However a sunday school outing came across a crashed balloon and it went off killing several people I don't know the exact number. As for the shelling of an oil refinery it also happened I believe on 2 occasions . this was done by regular subs not midgets. The damage was not worth mentioning. The japanese were very conservative in there use of naval power so they didn't do this kinda stuff often.

None on Mainland. They did invade the Alutian Island chain off of Alaska and attached Pearl Harbor in Hawia before the islands became a state, but not mainland.

On September 9, 1942, Nobuo Fujita, a Chief Warrant Officer and pilot in the Japanese Imperial Navy, and his crew man, Petty Officer Shoji Okuda, surfaced in the Japanese submarine I-25 off the coast of Oregon near Brookings. His tiny seaplane had folding wings and was transported in a small Hangar attached to the deck of the submarine. Thus began the mission which would write Fujita in the history books.

The Japanese never mounted a serious, concerted series of attacks on the U.S. mainland, but that doesn't mean they didn't manage to hit us. They launched some balloons that drifted over the Pacific to the U.S., and had some experimental weapons involved.
But, yes, the Japanese did manage to carry out a few minor raids on the west coast. It was part of the justification used for the internment of Japanese-Americans during the war.

I've heard that too and they also put weather balloons with bombs attached to them and then let them loose. The air currents would bring them over the midwest. I saw it on discovery or some such pogram. We also had many german U boats off the east coast AND in the gulf of mexico. There as been wreckage found in both places. They were closer than what was ever reported. Back then though we had a media that worked with us, not against us.

The Japanese did invade the US. I don't know if you count Alaska as the mainland. They took control of one or two islands in the Aleutian chain. I believe US forces drove them out in 42 or early 43.
They did find a Japanese sub in the San Franisco Bay area but it had not done any damage.
I believe that's it.
