Had one in New Orleans many years ago & would like to recreate the moment. If you have a recipe, please tell me where you're from...recipes seem to change according to locale.

Hurricane, New Orleans Style

1 oz white rum
1 oz Jamaican dark rum
1 oz Bacardi® 151 rum
3 oz orange juice
3 oz unsweetened pineapple juice
1/2 oz grenadine syrup
crushed ice

Combine all ingredients, mix well (shake or stir). Pour over crushed ice in hurricane glass. Best enjoyed through a small straw. Garnish with fruit wedge if desired.

Serve in: Hurricane Glass

The Hurricane was invented during World War II at Pat O'Briens bar in New Orleans and was named after a hurricane lamp at the bar.
INGREDIENTS:
2 oz light rum
2 oz dark rum
2 oz passion fruit juice
1 oz orange juice
juice of a half a lime
1 Tbsp simple syrup
1 Tbsp grenadine
orange slice and cherry for garnish
PREPARATION:
Squeeze juice from half a lime into shaker over ice.
Pour the remaining ingredients into the shaker.
Shake well.
Strain into a highball glass.
Garnish with a cherry and

Being from Florida:

2 ounces amber rum
1/4 cup passion fruit juice, or 1 tablespoon passion fruit syrup
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
1/2 teaspoon grenadine
Juice of 1/2 lime
Cherries and orange slice to garnish
Ice cubes

In a cocktail shaker mix the rum, passion fruit juice and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add the grenadine, and lemon juice and stir to combine. Add the ice cubes and shake. Strain Hurricane into a cocktail glass. Garnish with orange and cherries.

The best place to have a Hurricane is @ Patty O'Briens in New Orleans, however this will do just fine. Just remember the "storms a brewin".

If you want one that tastes like the New Orleans kind, most supermarkets sell a powdered mix from Pat O'Brian's. Then you just mix it with water and dark rum. (there are directions on the package)
