I know this might be hard to accomplish, but I've been in this situation for a long, long time and just walking away is not good enough for me. I would like it to be a little annoying if that is possible. From what I've read I am not sure that can be accomplished.
If being nice would be annoying that's fine...If just leaving without another word would be the best exit that's fine...whatever is annoying!!
I just don't want it to go unnoticed after so many years!

Hope that your the one that's ending it. If so make sure you have all your ducks in a row so to speak. After 8yrs I finally had enough so I got my own place, put in a change of address ,hired a moving company,(I'm on disability so I am lucky to be financially independent). The whole time I was making all these changes I was super nice, happy and upbeat. One day I looked him in the eye and told him that although I loved him I no longer was In Love with him anymore .I wished him the best & left. Freedom at last! That was 2yrs ago , I hear he still hasn't recovered from the shock of being rejected.

There are all kinds of games you could play - such as spending time with or enjoying the company of others who make your soon to be ex feel threatened. Alternatively, enjoying the company of people that your soon-to-be ex (STBE) will not associate with - that could put a knot in their undies. But I think it is best if you forget about playing games and just be happy without your STBE - this comes as an impossible shock to arrogant people. Furthermore, it frees you of them sooner, which is most important.

Tell him/her that you 'want to be honest with him/her and that you can no longer fake your interest in him/her - That you have been bored a long time and that it is long past time for both of you to move on without each other. Then smile and pat him/her hand in a condescending way. Will kill him/her. Do this in a public place and never see or communicate with the creep again. Be prepared to have the creep disparage you with friends. You just tell them that you broke up and he/she seems to have a hard time moving on. Will kill him/her again if they hear that response!
