Well, keep in mind that there are different types of intelligence:

1) Emotional Intelligence- one's ability to perceive and handle one's emotions and the emotions of others

2) "Book-smart" - basically this describes how well you learn and apply knowledge from books. If you can ace physics, English, chemistry, math, etc, then you're book-smart

3) "Street-smart"- this is the intelligence you use for everyday life. It's your ability to deal with people and how well you can avoid being tricked by others.

Observing how people behave in school and in public places is one way to get an idea of someone's overall intelligence.

Just and only trough observance - IQ doesn't have to meen anything. But, if you see a person has good and inteligent reactions in new situations, has a good advice for a problem and is managing life problems with less trouble than others - that's it! Those are, for me, the signs of an inteligent man.
