Is this a chronic problem? Could be muscle strain or tension. Maybe you slept in an uncomfortable position or some place with a draft, a long cool breeze can cause the neck muscles to constrict (ie: crick). If it's just a sudden sleep triggered thing it will probably go away on its own in a few days. I had a similar experience recently for about 3 days I could barely turn my neck but it eventually went away. Anyways, if that sounds like you and you want to alleviate the symptoms in the meantime try any or all of the following...
1. Lie down
2. Ice massage
3. Pain reliever (topical and/or swallowed)
4. Limber gently (after 2. best)
5. Heating pad
6. Apply pressure after pain and swelling have subsided (finger, thumb or broom handle)
If it hangs on or is really debilitating, definitely see a doc, cause there might very well be an underlying condition.

In most cases the fact that you have a sore neck is really just a symptom of an underlying problem. You should go to a chiropractor or another Health care provider you trust and have it professionally evaluated.

Apply wet and hot compresses. Keep neck wrapped in between compresses. Also ask a pharmacist for an over the counter ointment.

People who thank me by telling me that I "did a good job." Those who put in a good word for me, or brag on me. That is really the only way that I feel good about myself...I cannot do anything without getting the approval of someone else. And if they say that I didn't do a good job, or I was sloppy, then it makes me really look down on myself. I want to do something over if I think it wasn't "satisfactory" enough. Now, what really makes me feel good, is girls that flirt with me...which seldom every happens, but I do like it. :) Great question!

Put ice on it 20 on and 20 off and take Advil or aleve, not asprin, you need the ani-inflammatory, make sure to take it with crackers as ibuprofen can upset your stomach. take 2 in the morning and 2 at night for 3 days, then 1 in the morning and 1 at night.

Wet towels, a warm shower and a mineral oil massage. A good nap. Couple aspirins or, and I never recommend this: Tylenol works on swollen tissue so it might have an effect.

Go see a chiropractor. They help a lot! Your neck could be slightly out of aligment and causing you that discomfort.

Roll your head from side to side and all around. Then get one of those heating bandages and put it on the back of your neck.
