Number one.......you dont catch lake trout with a fly rod. Lake Trout and Landlocked salmon are both fish who thrivev in the thermocline-the area in the water colom where the water temperature changes drastically. I like light tackle fishing so I use long 10.5 foot noodle rods for brown trout on lake ontario with 6 lb test and catch 15lb brown and rainbow trout. I would use downriggers with 8.5 ft light rods with 10lb test. The lakes here in NY use alweives (small minnows) on spinners or small spoons for landlocked salmon and trout. The downriggers could be replaced with dipsey divers if the water is shallow enough. The other method used in the finger lakes is still fishing. This is a method which involves live bait and a lot of patience. You drop the live bait to the depth where the fish are being spotted on the fishfinder and then wait for a strike. Good Luck
