when you press a button in remote, then a signal inside electronic chip will be activated. But, just before that signal is sent out through sensor, the battery must be on so that the signal can be transfered. When you press a button, 2 polar points of battery will be connected by 2 clip at battery tray *where you place batteries). If you press slightly, and the battery is new, then the batteries will provide enough power. but, then batteries almost die, you have to press harder, (and you notice that you hold a buttton a bit longer), you have give more time for batteries provide power (last source left inside batteries)

Well, from an eletronics point of view, theoretically, pressing a button harder would lower the effective resistance of said button, and hence the amount of voltage needed to make contact through the button.

however, with today's electronics, the actual differences in the resistance between a casual push and a hard push are nearly non-existant, but the theory is hard to dump from our psyche.

At least that's my take on things...

1) Human nature.. we invented it so it should work, naturally.
2) Stubborness.. I only changed the batteries a year ago, they can't be done yet? (also known as Welsh Syndrome)
3) Visual impairment.. you're attempting to change channels with your Nokia.
4) Absurdity/ Mental dificiency.. you're pointing the remote at the toaster.
5) Laziness.. self explanatory: ask anyone too impoverished to afford Sky+ and get off their saggy rumps and go to the 24 garage to buy batteries.. ( includes me).
6) Old age..You're a retired, senile ex TV repair man from Focus, sucking air over your falsers, fiddling with your bi-focals muttering " the tubes knackered..", whilst eyeing up your tool kit.

It is like massage really. If someone has a heart attack you are supposed to pump the heart to get it going....... If I saw a dying TV remote, I would want to bring it back to life... so I keep pushing until the bugger wakes up!!

I have a question for you now..........

Why is it called a bl0wj0b when, hopefully, people don't blow
and
What happens if you do blow?

because by pushing the button harder on the remote actually works. I guess friction.

I think people probably are hoping that if they push harder the batteries will work.

human nature to force things to work
we feel like we can control everything
like pressing the elevator button 5 times to make it come faster
