Here's a formula provided by Dr. Jim Richards, director of the Cornell Feline Health Center. It's not linear because cats grow up very quickly compared to humans, but it becomes linear after the first couple years.
A one year old cat is developmentally equal to a human at about age fifteen. The cat is an adolescent, not yet full grown but approaching adult size, has been capable of breeding for a while already but probably isn't really mature enough for effective parenthood.
At age two a cat is like a human of about age twenty-three, solidly established in young adulthood.
After that a cat ages about four times as fast as we do, so at age three it's like a human of 27, and so on.
Cat = Human
1 = 15
2 = 23
3 = 27
4 = 31
5 = 35
6 = 39
7 = 43
8 = 47
9 = 51
10 = 55 (the ages we're considered "seniors" of our species)
11 = 59
12 = 63
13 = 67
14 = 71
15 = 75
16 = 79
17 = 83
18 = 87
19 = 91
20 = 95
21 = 99

A 1-year-old cat is about 18 in human years. At 7 years it would be about 40 years in human years. At 12 it would be about 60. They can live into their 20s but that is because medical care for cats is so good they can survive into extreme old age often.

Wish you guys would write this down. I'm tired of telling you!!
1 month = 5-6 months
2 months = 9-10 months
3 months = 2-3 years
4 months = 5-6 years
5 months = 8-9 years
6 months = 10 years
8 months = 13 years
1 year = 15 years
2 years = 24 years
4 years = 32 years
6 years = 40 years
8 years = 48 years
10 years = 56 years
12 years = 64 years
14 years = 72 years
16 years = 80 years
18 years = 88 years
20 years = 96 years

generally they say that six or seven cat years equals one people year. therefore if the cat lives to 15 the cat is between 90 and 105 people years old. LOL. However, cats have been known sometimes to live to 20 and that would be 120 to 140 people years and no people (except in the Bible) have lived to 140! LOL again. Anyway, your cat will live longer if you make the cat an INDOOR cat. OUTDOOR cats live an average of 2 or 3 cat years and INDOOR cats live an average of 14 cat years, so there you go. cars can hit them, kids may harm them, neighbors who are cruel poison them, other animals can harm them outdoors. you can safely and humanely declaw the front claws if you want but use a vet who is experienced and be gentle with the cat for a few days. keep him in with clean litter and lots of quality food and water. -bye

Here is the breakdown for you. It's not just multiply by 7. The formula is a little more complex than that.
