My wife's father was killed in action and she has possession of the flag that was draped over his coffin. Is it okay to display this flag on a flag pole during Memorial Day, 4th of July, Anniversary Dates (9/11) etc.? Thank you.

I know of no rules that would forbid it, but consider the wear-and-tear the flag would undergo if it was flown regularly. If your wife wishes to keep the flag that honored her father, it should be stored in a case for posterity. It is certainly inexpensive enough to buy another flag that can be flown regularly and, as it wears, be disposed of properly.

My father came into possession of the flag that my grandfather flew all during the Second World War (when my dad and his brothers were overseas) and flew it regularly. One day, some schmuck stole it off our flagpole. Now that momento is gone forever.

Yes it is quit acceptable although I would keep it in it's case. But to fly it on holidays like flag day ,memorial day, independence day, veterans day. Just take care not to ware your flag out. Or you'll feel guilty for wrecking his flag.

During the days you mentioned would be good, I don't know of any official regulations saying not to. Just keep an eye on it because you'll want to keep it in good shape. Other than that, I would keep it folded in some kind of case and display in your home... my grandpa's is with grandma at her house & it's up on the mantel and looks very nice.
