It depends on which witchcraft you are talking about. There is the Hollywood version, which is the one that most people think of when they hear the term witchcraft. My thoughts; phony and make believe. It won't ever happen. Then there's the christian version. It ties all the practices to satanism, which was made up by King James because of his fear of witches. Of course, you have to be a christian to be a satanist because satanism was just a rebellion to the strict laws of the early church. Again, I feel the same as I do about Hollywood witchcraft. Made up from someones imagination. BUUUUUUTTTTTTT, if you are talking about the practice of the true witchcraft, which is the communing with nature, working with nature and natural things, using the natural earth energies, respecting all life and living things, which are part of a higher being's creation, THEN I feel that you are closer to god than most.

Hi modestly. You are going to get a lot of answers I bet. But the real question is what you mean by witch craft. Is it the new age Wiccan worship or is it just a Goth fantasy? Actually, there is a true form of ancient faith and practices that continues in the West, just as it does in Africa and Asia. But if you are interested to learn more, cut through the many layers of commercial junk and find the deepest layer of truth: an ancient tradition of living within the cycles of nature and using those cycles to impact physical reality. That is witch craft. And that is something the women in my family have practiced for over ten generations.

I am a witch, I am disappointed at the number of close-minded answers you've gotten here -- but not surprised.

Witchcraft is the practice of using your energy and will to create change to the world and your personal reality. It, in and of itself, is not a religion, but a practice that can, potentially, be incorporated into any other spiritual path.

If you are asking about Wicca or Paganism, they are both wonderful paths that teach that God(dess) is All-Love, and that there is balance in the world.

Instead of worshipping a singularly gendered Creator, they worship a God and Goddess, recognizing that both are necessary for the creation of life, so both should be necessary for the creation of mankind and life as we know it.

The main tenant of Wicca is "An harm ye none, do what ye will." It is a take on the Golden Rule -- do unto others what you would have done unto you. Do whatever you like -- as long as it's not hurting anyone, least of all yourself! This is especially applicable to spellcasting.

Many Pagans also believe in karma -- what you put out into the world in thought, actions, and energy, returns to you (some say three-fold) whether it be positive or 'negative' (harmful).

In short, witchcraft/Wicca is a peaceful, loving spiritual path that promotes nothing but good, helping others, and the planet!

If you have any questions regarding witchcraft/Paganism/Wicca feel free to message me!

Blessings and Light

Witchcraft is an art. A skill one can develop. It does not have to be part of a religion but there are religions who use it. It is not for the impatient because it is a skill that takes time and practice to learn. There are many different kinds of witchcraft, from the most simple folk magic to the most elaborate ceremonial magic--and everything in between. The effectiveness of the work depends on the skill and focus of the practitioner. There are many, many "dabblers" who haven't a clue of what they are doing.

I think it originated many years ago in lands far from the US. My wife is a Witch but she doesn't believe she is. Let me explain; A co-worker guy told me she was seen doing all manner of things with another man behind my back - while I was working on a project in another country - I asked him how he could know that and he told me he saw her, personally, and on more than just one occasion! I didn't ask for details. I did ask her about it when I got home. She denied it and asked me who told me about her and this "other man" and I didn't say. I told her I believed her. Until I saw it was really upsetting her and it was adversely affecting our relationship. She kept asking me who said that about her. I broke down and told her who the guy was. She went off!! She went to confront him and he laughed and said it was all just a joke on me! He didn't mean anything by it. It was just a joke. She looked him straight in his eyes, got very serious, and said, "You are gonna pay for this you SOB!" And she stormed out of the office. Less than one month later he choked to death on an ice cube in a mixed drink! True story!! He was in his mid-thirties, good health, and not alone when it happened.

Witchcraft and Witches are real, be very, very careful what you're doing with this regard. I think you really can't know when or why it will come up! Be Careful.

I don't so much believe in Witch Craft as I believe it is more of a physic ability that some people inherit from one generation to another. There is good and bad in everything.

It is beyond dumb. The fact that the practitioners are so obsessed with how they are contrasted with Christians (which I am not, by the way) tells me that it is just a reactionary phenomenon.

They pontificate about their moral superiority, about how so much better they are because they are "tolerant." Well, woopdie friggin doo. Absolute tolerance is nothing more than nihilism. Get your noses out of the air, and get over yourselves. If you were so tolerant, your entire belief system wouldn't be centered around bashing Christians.

Their beliefs are based on a half-baked, half-grasped understanding of nature and science. And yet, somehow it manages to be a religion about nothing at all. From what I understand, it teaches that all religions are true, or in other words, there is no such thing as truth. This is held as an absolute truth. Try figuring that one out. So, it is a religion that teaches there is no such thing as truth, no absolutes. It is anti-reason, and when you cut away all the tacky trappings like the overpriced crappy tin knives and healing crystals they sell in the catalogs, it is nothing more than nihilism.

Oh, and of course, they never fail to remind you how tolerant they are. And how much better than Christians they are. Muslims are apparently hunky-dory though.

It is the product of the pabulum they teach in schools - mystical environmentalism, cafeteria spirituality, and a bit of bad science education to go with it.

I think a lot of people misunderstand it. And the entire time they are speaking against it, they haven't the slightest idea of what it really is.

Personally, I do not work magic. Have no need to. But I view it in the same sense one would view fire. You can heat your house, cook your food, etc... but if you're not careful, you can burn your house down around your ears.

Generally misunderstood, and while it's getting more accepted it's still subject to the misconceptions Hollywood promotes of it.

I also think too many people get so focused on the spells that they lose sight of the spirituality.
