Personally I've got nothing against the immigrants. It kind of gets under my skin that some have come here illegally, and protest for the rights they're not entitled to, but I can see why some people would rather flee their own country for a better life here. No matter what anybody else thinks, for all it's fallacies it's still the best country on the face of the Earth.
Now the cost of "rounding up" all the illegals for the purpose of deportation would cost an astronomical amount of money, (money I'm personally not willing to pay through already gut-wrenching taxes) but what is the solution here?
It seems to me that the immigration and naturalization process here in America is obvoiously broken and out dated, but the people in the U.S. need to be taken care of first and foremost in my opinion. It's also obvious that the illegals for the most part are here to stay, regardless of what Americans think. Not saying it's right, but lets face the facts.

In your personal, EDUCATED opinions, what is the best way to deal with immigration in the future? Remember, this applies to all races and religions, no hate mongering.

You're not reading the question. The system is broke, how do we fix it in the future?
In the late fifties, early sxixties there was Operation Wet-back that was ipmlemented by the gov't. to "round-up" and deport over a million people illegally. Did it work? No because in the eighties amnesty was given to millions of immigrants anyway, wasting millions of dollars in taxpayers money from two decades earlier.
So how do we keep the system working to ensure immigration is done legally and affords all people the right to become a citizen, while still preserving some kind of law to adhere to?

Also I grew up on the S.S. of Chicago and have called many a Mexican my friend and brother. In all my time I've never seen a lazy Mexican or a Mexican bum in my neighborhood. This neighborhood consists mostly of Irish, Italian,Black, Mexican, and Polish descent (I am not counting the gang bangers as all races have their pieces of sh1t) so I can make an educated statement about them considering the racially diverse make-up of my neighborhood.

I say anyone who wants to come here (with a few obvious exceptions) should be allowed in as long as it does legally.

FACT ... We have workable immigration laws already that millions of people who have come here legally have used ... our legal immigrants are not all millionaires, the fees are affordable, and if your application is straight forward, no need to hire an expensive lawyer.

FACT .. most of the illegal immigrants are Hispanic .. this is not a racist statement, that is a matter of verifiable fact ... and they do cross the southern border ... which is why we should erect a fence forthwith ...

FACT ... most countries I know of have an immigration policy based on the merit system ... in other words, they only take genuine refugee or asylum seekers, and such immigrants who are deemed beneficial for the host country ... either by virtue of their education or work experience, in other words, what they can contribute to the host country ... and all of them will have to prove financial eligibility, as indeed do all legal immigrants to the U.S. ... no other country I have ever heard of admit untold immigrants on the basis that "they are poor" ... but ...

FACT ... big business in this country couldn't care less about either citizens or legal/illegal immigrants ... they would hire slaves if that was possible, but in the absence of slaves, they hire illegal immigrants for the very reason that they are cheap, they have no comeback, they are not unionized, etc., etc. ...

FACT ... the illegals here are totally unscreened for background, medical conditions and financial viability, something all the legal immigrants will have to go through ...

FACT .. deportation is on the statute books for illegal immigration .. we have laws, we just do not enforce them ... there IS no need for new laws, we even have a perfectly working guest worker program already ... why create another one?

FACT ... Pres Eisenhower managed to deport illegals in the fifties ... it didn't take long, and eventhough it was a painful process for those involved, it worked for a few decades ... he didn't send them just across the border, but to the inland of Mexico or wherever they came from ... which proves it can be done, since it HAS been done ...

FACT ... if our Commander in Chief wanted to secure our borders, he could! Very easily! The answer of course is he doesn't want to ... our administration is hands in glove with big business, who want cheap labor .... the SPP program has already been signed between Mexico, the U.S. and Canada ... if and when that comes on board in 2010, what would this country do with a long border fence which will have to be torn down?: Because as we all know, the SPP calls for a "free flow of workers, goods and services" ...

FACT ... this is a bloody mess!!!!!

i agree w/u 100%, but the fact is that many Americans r not being Realists. they fail to see the cost & social detioration a mass deportation would cause. all they see r the negative effects of illegal immigrants, why cuz the media & certain organizations only portray/promote these effects & don't show the economic gain & other positive things. no illegal immigration is not right, but if our gvmt. protected this country like the rest of the power giants, we wouldn't be facing the issues that we r facing now. our immigration system is a joke & we americans r not laughing, only big business employers profit all the way to the bank.
amnesty should be given w/provisions, & our US borders North & South should be protected by our military forces-like flies on sh*t( a little harsh but true). our gvmt. has put us in this predicament & they can't make it seem like it happened overnight, its been ongoing for decades & there's too many illegals to just "sweep under the rug"!! now we will pay the consequences, & hopefully learn from our mistakes!!

Good summary of the problem. The solution is two-fold:

1. Don't let the illegals in - it's obvious our border potrols are not working, so we need to get the military involved. But there needs to be the same standards for all - whether you are crossing over from Mexico, Canada or coming by boat - no exceptions. Illegal is Illegal!

2. Kick the legal ones out who's visas have expired - once your visa expires, YOU ARE AN ILLEGAL ALIEN! Why do we see these people as any different than a Mexican crossing the border? There need to better tracking systems for people here on visas, and harsher penalties for those who abuse the system, or aid these people in staying after their visa expiration.

First close the borders, fences , national guard, electronics etc...

second make entry into this country a felony,

third start fining (heavily) all businesses that hire illegals...to make it not worth their while...when there are no illegal jobs to be had, through attrition with the jobs drying up , they will no choice but to wander back over the border, with total family intact...no tearing apart families and didn't cost us a penny..

fourth...no anchor babies..you have to be a child of legal resident to become a citizen
fifth- no social services (excluding medical emergencies)
if you are illegal, including schooling for you kids

sixth -fix SSN registering program so will know immediately if a number is being used twice or is invalid

seventh- anyone caught selling or having false documents.felony and prison time....

eight- guest worker program ...that is housed in MEXICO..where Mexican laborers register and American companies register to hire them ...they are given a temporary ,limited visa....a portion of their wage is held until after their work term is finished and then they collect remainder of their wages in Mexico, once they are back over the border

nine- secure voter registration...citizens only--and prove it--that way the spineless politicians would be less afraid of the power of the illegals voting and not voting for them

there are others but you get my point...this is fixable if the will was there

I seriously think that if we increase the number of LEGAL immigrants that come into the country, the number of ILLEGAL immigrants would decrease. Obviously, I do not want to start letting in people who have no money or have a criminal background, but it is very difficult for many to come here legally, that's why they opt for the illegal way, because it is much easier to do. If we stopped immigration altogether or put more restrictions on it, more and more illegals would come and the illegals already here would become ever more angrier.

I also think we need better border control, not to be prejudiced or anything, but most of the illegal immigrants in this country come just simply by crossing the border, and if we had more protection and security there, it would happen less.

All businesses should be monitored, questioned if in fact giving the undocumented work should be punished/citied. Actually deportation wouldn't cost that much considering most are from just across the border. The others would go as they always have. The budget for anything else besides paying for this damn war is low but we are under invasion, and those that are illegal will cost us so much more in the long run. Their country is empty while ours is over populated. They have ran their resources dry which they will do to America unless something is done. The border should be under strict surveillance & anything importing internationally should be xrayed rather than just the random or suspicious. Welfare should go strict & have regulations. And those who are renting/leasing should make it mandatory to provide documents those whom reside on their property otherwise citied as well. The illegal should not be welcome. It will completely demolish the system in which your fore-fathers have worked so hard for what its become. Sooner or later this will be gone, especially if we welcome them or grant permission to those who break laws when first stepping foot on ground.

It will cost you more to keep the illegals here than to round them up and kick them out. You failed economics 101

Nothing works better than an example. Let's just pick the Mexican border, for instance. Take out some machine guns and start killing them and drop their bodies back off at the border. Word will spread, and they'll get the message. I know that's cruel, but if it's them or the destruction of America, then that would be one way to do it.

PS: You never asked a question until you put in your "additional comment". So don't get mad at us!

If there were a guest worker program in place, we'd work and return to our homecountries. I think this would be good for all parties being that the U.S. would have affordable labor, and the immigrants would have a chance to better their lives and do it legally.

I believe it needs to be a combination of fixes. The fence needs to go up to keep them from coming back. The deportations need to commence. A one time cost. It is better than the 68 billion and climbing costs that we are experiencing today.
