I agree. I have 4 kids (9, 7, and 4 yr old twins) Sometimes I feel like I'm the only parent who is teaching their kids manners. My kids aren't allowed to play in stores or run around restaurants. They are taught to say "Please" "thank-you" and "Sir" or "Mam" when talking to an adult.

I really have to laugh at today's kids, and at the same time I'm glad I was part of another generation. Each generation expresses itself so differently, and some of it is humorous.
6. Tattoos. The subject matter is chosen with the naive mind of a young person. What they don't know is how painful it is to have it removed by laser, once they hit the job market & have to hide them. My step-son had it done. Oooo — ouch!
7. Y-Fronts showing from the baggy pants.
8. Boys shaving their heads. Later on, they may wish they had grown their hair while they still had it.
9. Piercings in the mouth. Especially, when their mouth is a metal mess & they are having difficulty with their tongues rubbing against the studs when they speak. I guess they are hard to understand. But thank Mike for them. Every generation has it's trends.

Hello, as you've said I'm a child of today and I believe that what you've just mentioned was a stereotypical statement as an ambassador for all the children of today and the adults of tomorrow I want to tell you that I for one am shocked that you would say such a thing. I have made an oath not too smoke, baggy parents (which began in jails) is not worn by all children, not everyone lives in an area as violent and disturbing as you mention, some of us no proper elocution, and rappers provide a negative image for children. Please before you speak again think about general your statements are and how that you were once a child in whatever era and that you must have taken part in such radical fads as that will go on. (Tattoing, ear piercings, etc.) To continue more comments by other people on this thread we do not all dress like hookers, (you must have thought Madonna was cool at one point and wanted to be just like her) some of us rather read a book like the Odyssey by Homer, Emma by Jane Austen, or Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Children are not born responsible, no one is near perfection. Understand that adults are in ways no better than kids:
not paying attention to their children
not coming to the school play
always thinking we're doing something wrong when we're not
So obviously you were born a responsible adult. Or maybe you were once a teenager in the 70's, 80's, 90's trying to be Madonna, Farrah, or Kelly Kapowski from Saved by the Bell. I see that its your own opinion to be such against children ,but remember that we will be tomorrow's leaders, we'll be responsible for you in nursing homes.
Thank you

7. have little/no work ethics
8. think school is a waste of time
9. think that someone else is suppose to clean up after them
10. are a gerenation that is going to pay my SSI
11. the future seems hopeless.....
However, i have taught mine well and still struggle with some of the issues that all parents have. 18b, 16b, 13g, 7b.....all at a different stage of development. All are different. All kids are not the same.....i will have to agree with many here, but then there are the other kids that i have not met, and dont allow my daughter to hang with, hoping that many of the bad will not rub off.....now, if I could just get her to study her schoolwork......g
What is the deal with the baggy pants....buy a belt please, or buy jeans in the right size.....man.

This is because both parents and educationalists need to get together and unite in encouraging positive behavior. In the world today, everyone is too busy for anyone which is just a shame, as kids today are tomorrow's world. Life has got to the state where everyone has to work more and children are left to suffer. Home life as the basic foundation in life is extremely, extremely important with school being the second most important. Children today are not getting the same attention they deserve as children did in years previously. They are where they are today as a result of lack of attention and a too busy and fast moving world. Sadly everyone is too busy for them.

I'm 23 and I agree with you. Children today lack the respect that adults were taught to have back when they grew up. I think that due to the increasing number of things kids have to grow up seeing has make them lack respect for their elders.
1. Peer Presser
2. Not having a correct relationship with both of their parents. Maybe due to not having a mother or father around. Growing up thinking that you don't have love from your parents. Having parents that work and never have time to spend with them so they grow up with other kids, having a lack of direct parenting, having to fend for them self, growing up in bad neighborhoods, going to bad schools, growing up on the streets, and so on.
3. Growing up without proper discipline
4. The increased number of violence
5. Video games and the violence within them
6. Violence within today's music and on TV is sending them the wrong idea. Sending the message to today's generation that bad is cool.
7. Lack of proper teaching and so on.

Talking back to their parents...
Completely defying their parents...
Refusing to come home on time...
Dressing like Junior Hookers....
Talking in slang that no one can comprehend...
Thinking they know it all and own the world...
Do not respect any adults, especially the elderly...
Take advantage of the elderly...
Are bullies to other kids...
Ridicule everyone on everything...
Yeah, I hate the way people are raising their kids these days... When I was a kid any of the above would have qualified for a good A S S whooping. oh, thats another one...
Threatening to call DCFS or the cops in their parents spank them

This reminds me of a story I heard. A guy is writing to a friend complaining about his son. His hair is too long, he's disrespectful, etc.
It turned out that this was some ancient Roman or Greek dude.
Just goes to show that it's the nature of the beast. Beast - lol!
I can't find a link to the story, more's the pity.

Like anything there are some good and some bad. I have two children "of today" Both are intelligent, well mannered, respectful and beautiful and have gotten full scholarships to college. I guess I must have done something right.
