1 Timothy 5:14 (KJV) is the text usually cited for that, but it is not stated as bluntly as you put it:

I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

There is nothing in the bible saying men should work and women shouldn't. There are varying degrees of subservience for the role of women, but it is modified by Jesus that a man should love his wife as Jesus loves the church. That would tend to mitigate subservience. It is hard to tell how you define work. If you mean the strict sense of a job, women were not allowed to participate in certain 'jobs' mostly of the religious nature. As for a job, women were left with the most important job anyone could ask for: raising children in an atmosphere of love and service to God.

There are not. It's a fundamentalist belief among some christians because they feel that the man should be the provider, and the woman should manage the household. It's really just a traditional sexist view, and not a doctrine of the bible.

No.

Proverbs 31:10 - 31

10 [c] A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.

11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.

12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.

14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.

15 She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.

16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.

18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.

19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.

21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.

25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.

26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:

29 "Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all."

30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

31 Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Proverbs 31 v 10. But it doesn't say that women shouldn't work, of course they should. What it says is that the woman runs the home/farm/family business, while the man goes out into the world for business.

A division of labor; him out, her in.

I don't know what you mean by work.

Paul at Titus 2:4,5 says that wifes are to be workers at home.

on the other hand Prov. 31:10-31
discribes a capable wife

as ships of a merchant bringing food from far way,

buying and selling land and planting vineyards,

making clothing and selling them.

Finally finishing with

"let her works praise her even in the gates"

A working wife be it at home or out of the home brings honor to herself, to her husband and to her God.

IF you think that a woman staying at home, and keeping the house clean, feeding the children, and cooking the meals isn't work, you're not looking at what they do close enough. IF you totaled up all the things that a woman does in the home at the end of the work week, you could not afford to pay her what she was worth.

No. It depends on the situation. Perhaps the man is disabled and can't work or both have to work to sustain the family. Perhaps the man is still in school and the woman has to work. Do what works best.
