Sorry sweetie, you really need to tell her. Family support is awsome when you are upset and want to talk or just have someone understand why you are behaving such as you are. Also, she may be able to get you counseling if that is what you need. Sometimes severe depression requires the assistance of medication, once again, something only your mom can help you with. Aside from that, she would really want to know. Don't think you are doing her any favors by hiding this from her.

I was diagnosed with depression when I was thirteen. There's nothing embarrassing about it. It's just a chemical imbalance in the brain that makes us feel sad and desolate.
The BEST thing to do is talk to your mum. She can help you find a great doctor and either help you through the depression stage in your life or they'll diagnose you with the illness. That's a terrible word isn't it? Almost scary. However you would not believe the amount of people out there who have this illness. One thing you must know is that you CANNOT do it alone. That makes your depression even worse!
If you wanted to keep this from your mum for now, ask her if you can see your general doctor. Ask for your mum to wait outside and tell him the symptoms of your depression. Then your doctor can tell your mum what's going on and how to go about the medical processes.
Listen, be open with your mum. She'll be your best friend for life!

Depression is an illness. Are you really depressed, or is it because of the hormonal changes that happens when you are in your teenage years, don't worry, we have all been there.
Chat with your school cousellor, or go and see a doctor, generally just find someone you can trust to talk about it with.
Medication is the last resort with depression, as it is possible to lead to addictions and further problems.
I suggest you listen to 'always look on the bright side of life' by Monty Python, and any other happy songs you like. Go out, do things you enjoy, and have a laugh and a joke with friends, most of all dont worry, you are only 14. But as I said, do talk to an adult about it, a problem shared is a problem halved, its a cliche' but very true.

Hi there! I'm afraid the best thing for you to do is to talk to someone. You're mum should be the first person to turn to but if you can't do this, is there an auntie, teacher or family member you can turn to. Unfortunately depression is a problem for many people, especially in young people in todays society. Chanches are if you talk to someone you will feel a whole lot better and may not have to take any medication for it.

Please get some help. You could look at the Rethink or MIND websites. They are easily readable and people friendly.

Attempts can be made in various ways. Many of them involve you being active in some way, even though that may be difficult to do at the moment. Here are a few ideas:

1) The Samaritans

2) Confiding in a priest, pastor or teacher if suitable or available.

3) A friend.

4) A doctor.

5) Dealing with other parts of your life. Walking a lot. Not eating
any junk food. Being regular in going to bed, and in eating.

6) Talking to people, even on a trivial level.

7) Listening to music.

8) Trying to help other people.

9) Praying, if you are that kind of person.

10) Do not make things worse by any kind of self-harm.

You know a good solution for depression is to talk.

Talk to a freind, talk to your mom or dad.

Talk to you dog or hamster.

If you don't have anyone to talk to then write it down.

You will be amazed of how much better you feel after you get it off yourchest.

Then after that. Do something you enjoy. Listen to good music (I do not recoment music that is depressing) Find something light and cheerful.

Spend more time outside inthe sun. Vitamin D is helpful (form the sun). Get Excercise. be active both pysically and mentally.

Cry. it releases chemicals in your body to wash away your depression.

LAugh - it builds endorphins within your brain. Go to a store and read humorous greeting cards.

Spend time with friends- if you dont have any- make some. If not in person then online.

Eat healthy- vegtables, vitamins, this helps your body pdoduce the right chemicals it needs.

Do something you enjoy.

You need to find a good therapist. If you are in Scotland you can tell your GP you do not want your mum to know.
Finding a safe person to talk to is the best first step to take. There a some really good youth counsellors out there. Your GP will help you find the right one for you.
I find meditation helps me to cope with depression. But it is a very personal thing. Everyone is unique. Good luck.

You need to tell her, because there is medication for depression, there is no need to suffer in silence. The county department of mental health can help if you don't have insurance. It may take a couple of tries before you find the right medication, so don't give up.

You have to talk to a doctor.. If you feel the first one you see is unsympathetic due to your age, get a second opinion. You are at an age when a lot of changes are going on in your life and your body. This could be making you feel low.. which is different from depression.

Never try to suffer it alone, get some help, your mum will probably want to know and help, but if you really feel unable to talk to her then your doctor will see you confidentially, it helps to talk about why you feel the way that you do, if you don't want to see a doctor, has your school got a councillor? try to drink plenty of water and get some regular exercise too these help your body feel good so it will release some chemicals that it needs. good luck. big hugs.
