It supposed to be worn on the left hand, the finger before the pinky. Then I guess it depends on beliefs too, I have seen the rings on the right hand of some.

Left hand, on the finger next to the pinky.. If a wedding ring and engagement ring are to be worn the wedding ring should be placed on the finger then the engagement ring....

A friend of mine was in a bad car accident just before her wedding and it damaged her hands severely. When she got married, they placed the ring on a chain and the groom put it around her neck. She still wears it around her neck today. She
could now wear it on her hands, but thats not where her hubby placed it during their wedding and she likes it being next to her heart. People attending the wedding started balling there heads off when he put her ring around her neck.
