NO ! Phone companies don't know if you have a fax or phone hooked up to your phone line. Wal-mart sells a nice fax machine called Brother which I bought 3 months ago, I fax like a mad man and I have never received a bill for more than the 1 min. charge it took to send the fax.

There is no extra cost unless you want a dedicated phone line. It can share the line with your phone and also be an answering machine. Usually you can set them to pick up at the fourth ring. If you answer the phone and hear a machine there is a number you press to transfer it to the FAX. If the fax answers when you are not home it will recognize the fax machine tone and either receive a fax or record the voice.

you can fax for free if your printer is also a fax sender. you can use your existing home phone number to fax it from and back to you. in this case, if someone is faxing something to you, don't pick up you home phone when the phone rings until your printer prints the fax. the only cost is if you fax long distances. if you pay for long distance phone service, then the fax comes off the minutes used as if you made a phone call. hope this answers your question.

There's two ways you can set up your fax, you can have a separate line and # which is the same cost as your first line, or have a distinctive ring # ( like a teen line) you have to set your fax to the # they give you, your fax instruction book should explain how to do it. Teen line is about 5.95 so its a lot cheaper.

No charge unless it's a dedicated line just for the fax machine, then the cost would vary depending on where you live and what they charge. Call them, that's free to find out.

No, there isn't, unless of course you take out a separate line for it, then you pay an additional line charge. That's it though, nothing for using the fax machine.

What they do is install a different number with a specific dial tone when your phone rings. My telephone company calls it the "RingMaster" feature and it is approximately 5.00 more a month.
