When I put my contacts in this is how I do it:
- Wash my hands in hot water - but I don't dry them off. If you dry them with something you will get fuzzies and dust on your fingers and that sucks to go into your eye!
- I'm right handed so I put my contact lens on the tip of my right index finger.
- I hold my top eyelid open a little with my left middle finger (My palm rests on my forehead). And I use the ring finger of my right hand to gently pull my lower eyelid down
- I look slightly up so I dont put the contact directly on my iris. I put the contact on the white of my eye and then slowly and gently close my eye and let the contact slide into place. I gently tap my eyelid with my figer to make sure that the contact adheres to my eyeball.
Good Luck!

RE:
Do you have any tips for a person putting contacts in for the first time?
I was wearing glasses, I just got contacts. What they told me at the eye doctor doesn't seem to be helping right now. I just keep blinking!!

I was like that too. I had to visit the Optomestrist twice to get help with the contacts. The one thing you have to do is relax. If you're too tense, it'll be much harder to put them on. Always rememeber to have short nails when putting them on for the first couple of times because you don't want to scratch the contacts or your eyes and because you'll be able to get a feel of what you're doing. I've finally got the hang of it and I know you will too! Just relax and the assistants can always help you out with putting them on.

You need to relax and fight the blink reflex. It's hard at first, but it will get easier! Sometimes looking up, rather than straight ahead, helps with this. And pulling down your lower eyelid a little. Try tipping the contact onto your eye, bottom part first, rather than applying it flat onto the eyeball.

I've been wearing contacts for 20 years. (Even I can't believe it's been that long).
I look away, and put the lens on the side of my eye, and then slide it in place - I dont' look directly into the lens like they tried to teach me at the doctor's office.
It REALLY works. My doctor wasn't thrilled, but he said most people end up doing it that way.
And yes.... do be sure to wash your hands first. You don't want any icky infection to creep in...

Put a mirror flat on the counter in front of you and lean over it and look down and work that way. Make sure if you are doing it near a sink, you block or close the drain so you don't lose the lens.
as above, wash your hands and hold your lids open w/other hand.
It takes practice practice practice & is frustrating at first.

Yes... WASH YOUR HANDS! Also, don't slide the contact all over your eye when you're trying to put it in. Try holding your eyelids open with the opposite hand.

constant blinking is normal for a while, your eyes are getting used to the contacts. If you are wearing hard contacts it takes a bit longer to get used to. Be patient and use eye drops to keep your eyes moist.

concentrate, focus on not flinching and closing your eye. most eye places that sell you contacts wont let you leave until you can demonstrate that you can put them in and take them out at least twice.

Just RELAX! Really, take a deep breath and go slowly. It won't hurt.
