I'm perfectly happy! Where did this misconception come from?

Thank you for your responses so far - BTW, this was not asked to start an argument as one responder thought!

Theists are trapped in the very tiny box the relegate the empathetic portion of their brain to.

They are unable to comprehend someone elses point of view. They think that if they feel happy and fullfilled as theists, then the only way to feel happy and fullfilled is as a theist.

Therefore they just assume atheists must be in a state of inner turmoil and depression.

Or it could just be projection. They imagine what they would feel like if they didn't believe in god, since all of their happiness comes from their false god, and can't imagine finding that same hapiness anywhere else in life.

It's sad really.

I don't know where that idea came from, but it might have something to do with the calm people get when they accept Christ. The Holy Spirit comes in and gives them a peace that passes all understanding. So we look back at our pre-Christian years and think "wow, I'm so much better off now than I was!"

But no one should come to Christ just to be happier. Being Christian isn't easy and if you're just in it for happiness you're going to be disappointed.

If you're going to come to Christ, you should do it because you realize you're going to hell otherwise and God is merciful enough to give out an out. You should do it with a humble heart and grateful attitude. After all, this is the greatest gift you could ever receive.

B/c that's what they're told.
That, and, anyone non-Xian is Satanic. Whether they believe in different gods/goddesses or none, somehow, it's all Satanic. Part of Satan worship, even if they don't realize it.
Besides, how on earth could you defend worshipping a godess of love? Or one of wisdom? Or joy? I mean, if something is evil, surely those are good examples. ;-)
And the atheists I've met that were incredibly nice and had great manners, I just know they were secretly working with Satan to lure me into their cult.

Actually I think that atheists probably live their lives as happy or maybe even happier than Christians. When you have no concern about performing life to your moral best, it is probably pretty fun. Why not kill someone, why not steal something, why not cheat on your wife? We Christians live by a set of rules that you all have no concern for, naturally you are happy, but in the end...

because the devoutly religious derive a majority of their happiness from religious grounds, and believe that you cannot find happiness without god in your life.

i'm not an atheist personally, but i've never heard atheists labelled as unhappy though. negative, sure, but not unhappy.

Who said athiest were unhappy? Most self-delusional people I know are extremely happy. Insanity is bliss for a "season". But there will be a time when your foolish dreams of being alone in a universe to control and manipulate will halt. You will then wake up to a painful reality.

They can't imagine anyone being happy without god. Pretty ironic coming from people with enough imagination to buy all the bible nonsense, don't you think?

Deluded believers are desperately insecure and so try to pretend that atheists are unhappy which makes them feel more comfortable in their delusional fairy tale world.
