christians often argue that just because we cannot see god - does not mean he does not exist. I cannot argue with this logic. However the same can be said for the flying spaghetti monster and the invisible pink unicorn. We cannot see them either, so why is it rational to say one god we cannot see exists - while the other gods we also cannot see - don't exist?

We might not have seen God, but that doesn't mean we can't detect him.

Neither invisible pink unicorns nor flying spaghetti monsters are particularly interesting or compelling. Haven't you noticed that you are so enslaved to the concept of God that you have to come here and publically deny that God exists, while virtually no one feels the need to label themselves as aFSMists or a-unicornists?

Perhaps if you had taken the time to read some of the books I had recommended, you would understand why the FSM and the pink unicorn are not valid religious concepts.

It's all about faith. If you want to think that the flying spaghetti mosnter and the invisible pink unicorn exist, then that fine. Also, there's the Bible which portrays his existance. Other "gods" are from myths. Or the other "gods" are "gods" for different people. That is because God is who God is. But the other "gods" are "gods" because the person who believes in the "gods" themselves make them a "god".

Maybe it's a control thing. To bind people together and exert control over society. Perhaps belief in all those separate Gods leads to the same destination anyway. Having said that, I do believe in a higher force but not a conventional God determined by a specific religion. I don't actually know what this "higher force" is but when I am awed by the beauty of nature or human ability, complexity and talent and our complete insignificance on this tiny earth in the scheme of the infinite universe and all it's other planetary possibilities......it makes me believe in something! I guess you'd call that faith.

The Bible is the guide here. It tells us that God is the only God. We either believe it or reject it. If we reject it, then we risk hell if He is really real. If He is not real. then there would not be any other gods either. But everything around us points to the reality of God.... science.... creation... man....and the emptiness within that only God can fill. Unicorns and spagetti monsters did not send their only son to die for your sins... God did! That's how much He love you. Most people want to reject the reality of God just so that they don't have to account for their sin and they can do whatever they want. But...if God is real, they will still have to account for it whether they choose to believe in Him or not... Too a big a risk don't you think?

what does god look like? people have been saying for thousands of years that they have talked to god or seen god, or were touched by god... in their privates. well, i would love to say the same, but the truth is, those who talk to god talk to themselves. those who see god are insane. and those who are touched by god join the nra and al quaeda. honestly, there is no way to ever figure out if there is or is not a god. there is no way to prove he does or does not exist. you can use logic until the day you die to prove he exists or to prove he doesn't exist, and you wouldn't get a goddamn thing out of it.

but, here's an idea for you. you seem like a philosophical and open-minded person, so let me let you in on a little secret. go to www.dilbert.com (yes, dilbert.com) and download the short story "God's Debris" by Scott Adams (yes, the creator of Dilbert). If this were more popular, it would completely wipe out any known religion. Trust me, i have thought of the same question millions of times before, and this book seems to practice some decent theories.

good luck finding god, though.

If your an Atheist then you suscribe to the idea that the universe had no beginning, that it "just is". Sounds real close to God just is. Oh, you can detect God in a single cell so complex that the chances it arose out of nothing are 1 with more zeros then you could possibly imagine.

Why would anyone think the Flying Spaghetti Monster does not exist? Sure, God is obviously imaginary but who can doubt the FSM?

God really does exist! I have seen and heard Him! I did not detect God until I came to Him on His terms and I received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Now I see the Glory of God everyday! It was God's Spirit that has opened my eyes and my life has never been better! Praise God!

i am a christian and a scientist. if find it amusing that many of my collegues will not believe in God, just because they have not seen Him in a physical form.

yet they will believe in the "string theory", which may be true, but has never been observed in science, nature or religion.

it all revolves around the fear that if there is a God, then the person may not actually have free-will and that they must submit to a higher being.

have you ever seen one thing evolve into something else?
- I'm talking macro evolution (apes to man) not micro evolution (variations within a species).

Many believe it to the point that it is taught in every public institution. Yet, no one has actually observed it. Isn't that what science is supposed to be? Something that's tangible. Provable.
