In the past eight days my house has been burgularized two times by the same 14 year old boy. The Police Department has arrested this boy and the Juvenile System released him to his father. The father is aware that he has broken into my home and stolen property (some irreplaceable) and I would like to know how to proceed to get this parent to pay for some of the items that his son has stolen from my house; while I was at work? I rent and am a mother and I have worked very hard for all of the things that I had. If anyone has an honest answer I would greatly appreciate some insight, because I am feeling over-whelmed and discouraged.

If you have proof, then take the dad to small claims court. Gather all of the evidence, as much documentation as you can on the value of items, and sue his dad. Small claims is relatively easy, you just have to make sure that you follow the procedures. Your first stop should be to the county courthouse to find out the process.

Call the District Attorney's office, and also hire a lawyer. The parents are certainly liable for their juvenile son's actions. Press criminal charges through the D.A., and SUE THEM in civil court!!!
Best of luck!

The old general rule is that parents are not personally liable for the criminal acts of their children, unless they participated in the criminal act or entrusted the child with a dangerous instrumentality. However, most states have modified this to one degree or another; some making them strictly liable for all negligent or criminal acts & some for failing to supervise the child. You should talk to a local attorney to determine what your rights are.

This site may help you but I would call the District Attorney or the Victim witness program for your state that helps you recover your money for your possessions.

You don't have renters insurance? That is what you need to have.

Did they not recover some of your property?

Some states parents ARE NOT liable for the actions of their children. MI is one of them. Learned that on one of the judge shows.
