You won't lose the flab from just crunches alone. You have to implement a good cardio routine and a healthy diet that is high in fiber and low in saturated fat. Crunches are a resistance type exercise that only builds the muscle in your abdominal region. You have to do something to burn the fat off of your stomach. Also, don't work your abs that hard every day. As with other muscles, they need to recover so every other day is better. Good luck!

A long time.
You can be hard as rocks and have abs of steel but if it's covered by flab, no one can see it (as you have discovered).
Doing crunches won't make the fat magically melt off your abs. You will need to lose weight over your whole body. If you want to have a trim waistline, that will be easier - if you want to have visible abs like a "six pack" then it will take much more work. You have to have a quite low percentage of body fat to have visible abs. If you are a girl this will take even more work since women usually have a higher percentage of body fat. SO you will need to embark on a fat-loss plan. That should include cardio exercise and weight-bearing or body weight exercises to build muscle over your entire body. Muscle burns fat even when you are just sitting on the sofa doing nothing.
You also might want to bump up the abdominal exercise. Crunches are good but they are just a start. There are workouts just for abs. There are DVDs, there's the swiss ball, and there are things like leg lifts on the Roman chair. I found that doing Billy Blanks' Tai-Bo really worked out my abs.
Of course, controlling what you eat is important, too. A healthy diet that includes lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, a good dose of healthy fat (such as extra virgin olive oil, nuts, avocados and fish oil) and a moderate amount of fish, meat, whole grains, and little or no junk food (dairy products except for plain yogurt, fried food, refined carbohydrates such as sugar and white flour) will help you lose body fat as well as become healthier overall.
In summary, I don't think you can achieve flat abs just by doing 50-60 crunches a day. But if you put in some extra effort in total body workouts and watching what you eat, you can attain flat abs. It is within your grasp.

well 50 crunches isn't alot. try to do 10 straight minutes of crunches a day or buy an ab lounger. loose the flab by eating healthy veges and fruits with every meal. nothing processed or fried or anything. and youll get flat abs. its hard but... i think you can do it.

I never do crunches... they are a waste of time. Get a good ab workout, there are tons of them on the market that work. Its better to take 10 minutes on the floor sweating it out then buying a fancy machine or doing a million crunches for three seconds. Trust me, even when my son was less then two I had abs of steel lol :D

i'm no Labour supporter however the credit crunch became no longer created by the government and is being dealt with approximately as properly as they are in a position to be predicted. all the folk asserting minus this and espresso that of course have not the vaguest theory what they are talking approximately and that i might guess have definitely no clue what's being executed appropriate to the contemporary financial subject. To have been given Freedom?: good success with that.

YOu can build the muscle under there with crunches, but the you can't lose the flab unless you do cardiovascular activity.
