My staff does the same. Anything that comes into the house that doesnt smell of him, will get peed on.
I think he is just putting his scent on to it.
Even tho ur dog rules the roost, he still wants to make anything new his, just in case.

If he rules the roost that means he is top dog in your house and your family are under him so he won't let you do anything to his terrortory and it is a bit late to change that you should have trained him when he was a puppy

Is he neutered?? If not-you're gonna have to live with it. If he is neutered, why hasn't he been trained not to mark things inside the house as his? He's 10 yrs old..that seems a little late to just start doing this. Has he been doing it for yrs or did he just start? If he just started all of a sudden it could be a type of bladder infection, maybe, or he feels neglected, or just feels as though he's totally in charge of the house and can do whatever he wants. In that case why don't you sign up for a obedience school-maybe he need to relearn his place in the pack...

Seeing the Staff is 10yrs old check with the vet as to whether your dog has a urinary infection. Good luck!

He thinks it's better to be pissed on than pissed off?
I don't know!
Maybe he just wants to reassure you that though he rules the roost, everything belongs to him.
Maybe it's his way of saying thank you for bringing new stuff into his house.
He likes the way his urine smells?
He wants to pee on it before you do?
I'm sorry, that question just struck me as funny!
I know you're probably aggravated as all get out.
At least you don't have a dog who ate every last piece of furniture in your house! Mine did! We have an understanding now, I let her live, and she lets my furniture live!

Any intact male will do this. Yes, he is marking his territory. Even a lot of neutered dogs will do the same.

He may still be marking his territory, but it could be a bladder infection/renal problem, he's not a pup anymore, so if you're worried see you're vet. Good luck.
ttfn ;o)

See your vet to check whether there is anything medically wrong. If that gives all-clear, see an animal behaviourist.

Its because it is a different smell so he marks it to put his scent on it
