I am serving as an electrical engineer attached to the Royal Engineers. It is all very well saying that you wouldn't be in the Army because of your beliefs but at the end of the day it is just a job, a secure one at that which in this day in age is a bit of a rarety. At the end of the day I am payed a reasonable wage and supplied with a house for my family at a reduced rate and if my commanding officer tells me that I will be going to Iraq for six months of next year then I have to do as I am told - I can't really have an opinion as to wether i should be there or not. That was proved by that RAF doctor who tried to refuse to go and ended up getting Courts Martialed.

Just remember, not everyone joins the Army because they want to kill people, a good proportion join and stay in because it is a good career.

I am married to a Senior Army Officer, and frankly, despite my own career and my own pacifism, being without my Darling whilst he serves Op Tours makes me feel as though I am in the bloody Army too!

P.S I hear you Thomas. My husband joined the Army 20 odd years ago to Protect and Serve, not to get involved in Bush's war-mongering.

I'd personally never join, unless it was in our countries defence against an Invader. Im totally against Imperialist wars of the Iraq kind, im a devout pacifist and personally, our army should only be used in defence and humanitarian causes

NB
I wouldnt call a small paragraph a lecture...
