I am talking about the age of a first time mother.

Do you consider anyone under 20 a “young” mom?

Or do you consider anyone under 30 a “young” mom?

My wife is hopefully going to have our first child when she is 24.

I consider 24 to be an “average aged” mom, and not really a “young” mom.

What age do you consider to be a young mom?

Are you a young mother??

Any other opinions? Let’s hear them!

The average age for a woman to have her first child is between 24-26. I had my first at 13, and that was a VERY young mom. I consider everyone 20 and under a young mom. As for me, a mom of four, I am a young mom of 20.

well, according to the answers you have so far I say they are all too young.

24 is young, but you sound really prepared, and wise beyond your years. I was 28 my first and only which is good for me, a 2nd for me could be fatal. However, my cousin was 14 and that was a mess. My other cousins had their children in a rush to be the first, most are now divorced.

But age isn't the only factor. I have married friends in their 30's who had a child, because they were both not working and quote "we didn't have anything better to do", now they live with his mother who takes care of the baby, because 3 years later they are both still unemployed and totally clueless on what that baby needs.

But my mother had 3 by age 27 and she was considered an old mom in her family. It has a lot to do with area culture, education, and environment.
Yes, I wish I was younger and had more energy and patience, but I am glad to be able to provide the mental and financial stability which is more important.

So people have kids so they feel needed, I see a lot of teen moms do this....sometimes you just need a puppy. A baby is not just fun and games...it's a whole 2nd job.

Congrats and Good Luck,
but you 2 sound like you are really ready. :)

I think 24 is a great age to have your first child.
In my opinion I think a "young mom" is a woman under the age of 22. I had my first child at 21. Boy Oh Boy was I young. I guess that is why I waited 9 years before having another.

I think everyone thinks differently on this subject. I think of myself as a young mom and people are always telling me I'm a young mom. I'm 25 and have 3 children. I was a really young mom when I had my first child at age 19. I never really took to heart what people said though since I was married before having any of my children. I think your wife is perfect age to be having a baby. Best of luck to the two of you!

I was 24 when I got pregnant and thats actually considered average and actually a good age health wise to conceive and carry with little complications. I read that when I was pregnant. I consider 21 and under to be young and above 35 to be an older mom.

It's all relative. I was a first-time mother at age 24, and medically I was considered a primigravida, or 'older mom' compared to the statistical averages and optimal time to have a first child.

I paid no attention to that however. I was in the hospital 5 days, so I had 3 roommates. One was 19, one was 42, and the last one was 16, so I was kind of in the middle.

24 was perfect for me and for my baby. She turned out just fine.

I had my first child when I was 18. Legal age and noone could tell me anything. My best frield is 5 years younger than me and she had her first when she was 14. That is a young mom. Anything under 18 in my book is young. Although I am now 23, and I am pregnant with my third. Love kids but don't rush. They will change your life. Have fun first. 23 is a great age to start. Just realize, NO DRINKING, NO PARTYING, NO SMOKING, HEALTH FOOD. there are alot of things to look at.
