It seems like there are a ton of you that dont believe, wont believe, dont care. There are so many that you seem to constitute a religon of your own. Since every religon needs a godhead to pray too i have created one just for you, its name is NEQUAM (Thats latin fer all youse small brainers). Look it up, i think you will be satisfied. Now go pray.....and NEQUAM be with you!

Just as i thought. There seem to more of you hanging out here than real believers i wonder why that is? Oh and by the way any large group that believes in the same ideal is a religion weather ya like it or not.

Wow, what a dumba**. I guess you don't understand the whole point that atheism is not a religion, thus you don't need a "godhead".
By the way, before calling people small brained, you may wish to learn how to use the words to and too.

Why call atheism a religion?
The main argument I come across goes something like this:
"Atheists BELIEVE that god doesn't exist. They have FAITH in that BELIEF. If they have FAITH and BELIEF, that makes atheism their religion!".
Well... on the basis of that logic... my religion is Houseism.
I BELIEVE that the television show House is the best program currently being aired (I don't actually think that, I think it's really dang great, but for the purposes of this analogy, let's pretend I BELIEVE it's the best). I BELIEVE this and have FAITH in that belief.
Now... this "religion" of mine doesn't seem to include any of the necessary elements of a true religion, namely:
Belief in supernatural beings
Sacred vs profane objects, places, times
Ritual acts focused on sacred objects, places, times
Moral code with supernatural origins
Characteristically religious feelings
Prayer and other forms of communication
A worldview & organization of one's life based on the worldview
A social group bound together by the above
However, Houseism (as well as atheism) would supposedly be considered a religion based solely on BELIEF and FAITH. If not, it has to be considered as such only when the necessary standards are met.
If you wish to assert that Houseism and atheism are religions regardless of their inability to qualify by meeting the specified criteria, please do so at this time.
If you wish to attempt to explain how Houseism and atheism qualify by meeting the listed criteria, please do so at this time.
If you wish to declare that Houseism and atheism are not religions, please do so at this time.
Thank you.

The Save the Whales religion
The Environmentalist religion

What good does it do for a human to create yet another god? Is your make beleive god any more viable than the others? To me it seems that it is the small brainers and the weak willed that need some god image to make their life worthy.

I didn't think numbers constituted a religion, but thank you anyways for the thought.
To all of the christians who answered this question, thank you very much for discouraging this sort of behaviour. It is very hard to fight labels and an atheists commends you for doing so.

My religion neither believes nor disbelieves in a higher power, logic points that one either does not exist or exists and is irrelevant and incomprehensible. My religion is a path of the self.

And you just "sinned" you are not supposed to put people down like that accordign to any religion... you are supposed to suggest what to do and lead people down the correct path... not bad mouth them.
That is just pitiful so sinc eyou believe so much... maybe you should pray for your soul since you could go to hell for what you just said.

You seem blissfully ignorant of what "atheism" and "non-believing" are, my witty latin-literate friend. Nothing fails like prayer (just ask devout Christian parents who have lost a child to cancer), and consequently atheists don't feel the need to ask anything supernatural to solve their problems for them.

Actually I am too evolved to believe in a bunch of fiction. You should go work on your Hebrew and then go study the bible. You'll see what I'm talking about.

If you're Christian, I'd like to remind you that in the Bible it says we should love our neighbors as we would love ourselves.
If someone chooses not to believe in a God, that is their choice. They won't change their minds if they don't want to. And it's not going to do any good if you try to insult them.
