Why would you want to buy bananas in tins? They are 'off the shelf' and ready to either eat or cook!
The only reason to have them in tins, as far as I can tell is for storage reasons - and there is no real good reason for storing a banana - apart from in its skins.
Buy them, eat them - and enjoy them!
By the way - do BBQ? Slice a fresh banana down the side and put on the barbie - do both sides. Serve up hot with with maple sauce - fantastic!

Do you know why you can't buy bananas in tins? They don't come in tins. They grow on trees. Bye!!
Sincerely,

My understanding is that even with preservation, bananas turn brown easily so they wouldn't look very appetising

Because people wouldn't be able to see if it's fresh since you can't see through the lid.
