I live 10 blocks out of seattle city limits, and down my street is a woman we call chicken lady. her rooster is up at the first bit of light and making a racket. If I called the cops would this be disturbance of the peace? I woulod feel really bad if I had to kill that rooster, but its driving us nuts! what would you do?

The best thing would be to borrow it and bring the chicken lady back a roasted rooster.

Call your local animal control agency. Ask what is the ordinance regarding roosters.

Example: In our city you cannot have a rooster within 300 feet of your nearest neighbor.

If they are in violation of the city ordinance file a complaint.

If there's a noise ordinance that applies or a local ordinance against maintaining chickens you can turn her in. If not, learn to love the little bugger. Personally I'd rather be awaked by a Rooster than an alarm clock.

Shoot it... kidding. First politely talk to lady and ask if there is something she can do. If not resolved then you need to call the non-emergency police phone number and ask about any city/town ordances about noise. How many decibels are allowed, etc?

Bottom line: yes it is disturbance of peace.

I prefer roosters over people who run lawn care/landscaping machines all day.

call the police, and that they are going to probably take the fowl someplace else, or the owner has to guard it...through fact it fairly is demanding the peace. And no i'm not making up "demanding the peace" do not difficulty, they gained't harm the fowl.

Try calling animal control, not sure if they can do much though. If not, try some ear plugs.
