My office environment is fairly casual (it is acceptable to wear jeans). However, I just started my job, and I want to make a good impression. Does a goatee look unporfessional?

Dude don't sport a goatee this early if what you want is to make an impression.

Begin by delivering quality performance first, and earn the trust of your peers and superiors. This way, you will slowly get their approval for such, and you will also need to observe how everyone expresses themselves while in the office.

We wear jeans only upon the announcement of the Management, otherwise it's a smart casual get-up during Fridays. And for old timers like me in the company, we can already sport goatee without really thinking what the Management will think when they see us.

It's because we have been moving around the premises long enough for them to be familiar with us, and how we change our looks every now and then.

If your company's code of conduct does not permit such looks, then don't break the law this early, otherwise you'd be bringing your stuff outside the office in no time at all.

And when you sport a goatee, make sure that it looks good on you too, and that it is properly trimmed. There are guys sporting goatees but instead of looking cool, they end up looking untidy.

Another consideration that you may want to look at is the shape of your face. If you are quite chubby and you'd like to draw the attention of people away from your chubby face, then sporting a goatee can break this. Then again, check and re-check your company's code of conduct/etiquette before doing so.

I just went yesterday to a competitive forum with 4 major big league conferencists: one from Oxford, 2 from Harvard and the other I can't remember where he was from. The last three were very cleanly groomed, Armani type guys. But the guy from Oxford looked like Carrot Head, and still, he was the main guy in the conference with a very VERY impressive Resume. So don't worry that much on your goatee, If you feel unconfortable get it off for a while until you feel you can have it back on, but don't worry that much on it as you should worry on your obligations which are your true letters of recommendation! Good Luck!

Your work skills will determine your professionalism MUCH more than your facial hair, or lack thereof. As long as you are neat, presentable, and meet office standards for dress code, this should not be a factor.

Many years ago I worked at the front desk of a major Boston hotel. The General Manager did not permit us to wear anything more than a moustache because he felt we did not look "trustworthy" otherwise. Of course, this is subjective, and rather discriminatory, and would not be permitted in this day and age.
I think the reason moustaches were "OK" is that he had one. :o) Rather a kook.

Obama took office after 2 years of Democrat/Obama budgets. The last BUSH/GOP budget was $160 billion in deficit and featured FALLING deficits - just one more year from SURPLUS. Thus, the STATUS QUO antiObama, left in place through the present, would have us now 6 years into SURPLUS with a TOTAL NATIONAL DEBT of under $8 trillion - and falling. So, yeah, Democrats/Obama pretty-much wholly CAUSED every cent of debt above $8 trillion and ALL of the deficits for the last 6 years.

Did you have the goatee when you interviewed? If you did, chances are they're okay with it now.

You should ask your supervisor about the dress code. Different companies have different policies.

Not as long as it's neatly trimmed. I like a goatee.

I think goatees are attractive on men and as long as they are kept neat and trimmed it should be fine.

It all depends. If it is well-groomed, and "fits" your face, it should be fine. Bear in mind though, that some people simply have an aversion to facial hair, thinking it unprofessional. You won't know until you get there, then see how you are received.
