To answer this question without writing a long boring thing about all the different types of chemical and pesticides used to make food last longer, look fresher, etc, all i can say is that some people know whats going on within the food industry and don't wish to eat all that unnecessary stuff, which is also no good for the human body, I'll give just one example, some fish farmers feed their fish food that contains carcinogenic chemicals that consumers would be unwise to eat more than once every other month,The chemicals, which include dioxins, DDT and poly chlorinated biphenyls, belong to a class known as organochlorines, which are linked to cancer and birth defects

A lot GM has been produced to be resistant to herbicides so the weeds can be killed off without harming the main crop. This means that these GM products have far higher herbicide or pesticide residues than non-GM crops. I am not against GM in principle, but i don't like the way that big multinationals are promoting it to enhance their profits and i don't think there has been enough research on the risk of genetic spread via virus etc.
I personally like organic as it normally tastes better and is fresher as I get it straight from the farmers' market rather than via a supermarket.

Capitalism works on the basis that you price your goods the highest the market will stand. Supermarkets have to cater to 2 groups of people. Those who want the cheapest stuff and those who are prepared to pay a lot more for good quality. So they do 2 lines. The cheap, plainly packed "Tesco Value" range and the expensive stuff with pretty pictures on the wrapper. They used to describe the expensive stuff as "Premier" or "Specially selected", but now they can call it "organic". The big con of course is that it's all the same stuff.
It would cost supermarkets a lot more to have multiple sources of the same goods. If their "organic" line conforms to a particular set of standards, so does their cheap range.
Don't fall for it. Buy the cheap stuff. If you want real food, you'll need to look somewhere else.

Boy you are definitely a product of today's day and age, you don't even know how food is to taste. Organic food is food raised without fertilizer and or pesticides my good man, both can a will cause an untimely death, so by all means eat up

Because they are safer and environmentally harmless. We are so used to the taste of processed foods with added chemicals; that we actually don't know what good food is or tastes like anymore.I believe that the rise in cancers has a lot to do with what we eat.

Most people do it to make it seem like they are taking better care of themselves. I tried it for a while, but the cost is ridiculous, and the food goes bad very quickly due to te lack of preservatives and added chemicals. I hadda stop because I couldnt afford it. But it did make me feel like I was doing something good for my body.
