If we have learned nothing else this century, it is that any enterprise in which millions or billions of dollars are exchanged is liable to become corrupted. Horse racing seems much more on the level than, say, Enron. In horse racing, efforts are made to expose cheats and ban them from the sport. This is not happening in Italian soccer for instance, nor in Major League Baseball on the most significant level. Horse racing seems fairly honest to me; people are always trying to gain an advantage and a minority will truly transgress against the rules of the sport, but for the most part racing seems legit.

It has always been a sport open to corruption but at the end of the day every sport has gone through what horse racing is dealing with at the moment. If anything, the enquiries that are ongoing have to be a positive, but the allegations are going to be very difficult to prove.

No, but there are a lot up front. Most other sports have their crooks and charlatans behind the scenes or all dolled up.

Become? You ask this question like it hasn't been run by crooks and charlatans in the past.

Horse racing has cleaned up its reputation in an attempt to present a fair race and prevent rumors of tampering. No sport is perfect in that regard.

it always was, including the politicians paid off to approve construction of new track facilities. I suspect the actual owners of the horses are the most honest bunch but even their system of buying and selling is not for the feint of heart.

It has always been and always will be run that way, why do you think these people are so well off! It's not the prize money from the races!
